Tomorrow I'll be picking up a '67 Ford truck. Tags are expired. I can't find the laws on if I'm okay to drive it home? Tags expired in October. It's about a 40 mile drive from right around the corner from Toretto's Deli from Fast and the Furious.
 
Carry your bill of sale and other documents with you and if stopped, explain it to the officer.

I have driven newly purchased vehicles home with expired tags several times and never had an issue getting stopped.
 
Disclaimer : I'm not a cop. Anyways, no, it's not legal. If the vehicle was registered as PNO, you can get a one day moving permit for it. IMO, unless you get pulled over, I doubt it'll be an issue.

i have a 67 f100 that's been in the family since new.

anyway, no it ain't legal.

i have accidentally diven around on expired tags for.. months. never a hassle. don't do anything dumb and no LEO is going to bother a middleage guy in a grandpa truck that is otherwise following all the rules of the road.

It's an F250. F100's are ridiculous right now, and I need something with a little more hauling capacity. I'm tired of borrowing a truck every time I need to do something. It's no creampuff, but it's pretty well rust free. I may have to replace a bedside on the right front. There's no real damage on the backside of the quarter, but there's body filler there. It leaks everything but runs good. It's all there except for one piece of trim, and I've already found a source for that. I'll respray it Caribbean green and white (factory colors), fix all the mechanicals and drive it. It's a factory AC truck too, but some of those parts are missing, so depending on cost, we'll see if that gets put back on.

I don't want any issues, so I think I'll just pay for a tow.
 
Are the tags expired, AND there's a non-op in it? If there's a non-op on it and you get stopped you might get it towed.

If just expired you might get a ticket and towed.

I do believe, for this very reason, it's illegal to sell a vehicle with expired reg.

If really worried about it, I'd trailer it home, and then get it registered.

sign up for the cheapest AAA level, tow will easily make it worthwhile and you can then do the DMV transfer there

mine has had a long life and needs... everything. the 250 is a great level of pickup. i don't understand why they'd be worth less than a 100 but as you've found they seem to be. basically the same except for springs/axles etc. whatevs, i'm sure it'll serve you well. i'm envious of the AC. my 6 eyar old has a long list of things i have to do to the "green Truck" and AC is on the list. :rolleyes. time doesn't grow on trees kid!

I have AAA. The cheapest only tows 10 miles. I upgraded last night, and it makes you wait 8 days for 100+ towing, and it's 38 miles.
 
Just wear a mask. Like Nixon or Bill Clinton or some orange dude while driving.

My recollection must be wrong I thought basic covered more than that.

If you want to cheat, you can have them tow you 10 miles at a time but that will probably exceed your service calls for the year before you get home. Hav them tow you to a tire shop, then make another call from there "nope that shop couldnt fix it I need another tow"

Luckily I havent had to do that but have come close to running out of service calls/year. Dang jalopies

I see dozens of cars/trucks with expired (some not even 2019!) every week. You’ve got nothing to worry about, just drive that puppy home.
