Get Fit, Stay Fit, Feel Good - 2026

I have some Schwalbes on my Vassago and a set of their marathons on my Trek. I am pondering a faster feeling tire for the Trek. Robert had made some recommendations. I should go double check my DMs and maybe order some, especially in light of the oops I mentioned above.

The downside of my new tires are the price. They are $90 each but I found them on sale for $65 at Mikes Bikes in Roseville. You might want to check their website to see if they are still on sale.

lol I already knew you were signed up for the Medio. Totally doable w how well you take care of yourself w hydration and fueling
This is actually a different fondo in Sonoma. I signed up for two that are three weeks apart. I’m dumb like that.

I have decided to follow the advice of the wise man from the north and you. I guess my job this week is to rest well, ride well, and hydrate.

And install faster tires. Both sets of your current tires are likely slower than Ridley’s old ones. Please please please 🙏

Edit: Oh that’s right you are doing Levi’s Fondo. That event is supposed to be fun and huge. Tons of pros will be there too cuz they have a big purse for the winners. Which means more fans and more people cheering for everyone.

I ordered some gator skins from the shop and asked that they put them on for me on Friday along with different pedals with toe cages. I know and like the gator skin and they are puncture resistant. I hope that meets with your approval. :teeth

My plan is to ride chill the first 33 miles because there are two climbs, one at 37 miles and another around 60.

The cut off is 1:45 at milepost 35 or so on my course. I should be past that point at noon. My estimated finish time, based on my average, is about 3:00. I’ll be in fine shape.

I plan on a few 2 x 15 mile rides this week. Plus walking.

Editing to add I emailed the shop again and asked for Conti GP5000 tubetype tires per a smarter person’s recommendation. 🤣

Set en up tubeless. It’s a bit of a faf but so worth it when it’s right. Those are good tires.
Maybe after this ride. this is my $400 Craigslist parts bin special so I am gonna keep the changes simple for this fondo. (I really love Schmoopsie, though!)

This sucks. Be careful out there. I'm sure the cyclist probably spit in the wrong direction or made a rude hand gesture or something to deserve his fate. I read it on the internet somewhere that non motorist should expect some retaliation for their disobedience to the Internal combustion engine so ya know again, be careful out there.

in case you need a few more details than the above.

OMG!!

That is very sad and given his work as a prosthetist it's a loss that will ripple out through the community for a long time. :(

Had a couple of good workouts over the weekend. Closing in on 7 mos since the leg snapped.

Bench press up, curls up, triceps up... and the advanced PT stuff added for the legs really focused on the rear where all is not yet right. Balance stuff coming along too. :thumbup

MRI in the AM for the shoulder. PT in the afternoon for the leg and then hit the gym most likely. Wife says I need to work more... she says I am like semi retired with all the gym time.

Sounds good to me.

You need to be able to enjoy your retirement, Bud, and you’re working hard towards that.

:ride

So TWT, is any sponsorship needed for you ride? Venmo, Zelle are on offer. You are such an inspiration. (y)

Aw, shucks. Thank you. Send Budman a few bucks for BARF! :love

@stangmx13 I am putting this here for the record:

My stretch goal is to ride the 68.1 miles in 5:45 minutes of pedal time. Strava is predicting 6:19.

I would like to roll across the finish line by 3:15. Our start time is 8:00 AM. I am slow and don't wanna shoot my shot early in the day.

There are three rest stops/aid stations, and I don't want to spend too much time at any one of them. I'm thinking three bottles of Gatorade/electrolytes and about 1400-1800 calories need to be consumed during the ride. (I burn about 550 calories an hour when pedaling). I'm getting go-fast tires on Friday, per Robert's suggestion, and adding toe cages to the pedals, which should give me a little more oomph.

really love seeing your biking updates. so jealous of ya'll in places where road riding is feasible/semi-safe.

Yesterday was a no go on the gym. so hoping to hit it tonight and get at least one good day in this week before my golf weekend where I will be celebrating a good doctors visit with excesses guaranteed to tick off my primary care. :laughing
