Consider the maintenance work or fixes that YOU need to do to the bike, and factor that into the price. It is ok to pay more for a bike that has had all of the maintenance work done to it recently, or pay less and get a bike that needs some work, but you must know this in advance and be ok with it.
    • Inspecting the bike: if you are not experienced yourself, have a mechanic or an experienced friend check the bike before making a purchase. Crashed bikes:This is even more important if you are buying a bike that is being sold at a cheaper price with damages that the buyer is required to fix. In these cases, doing a frame check that will show any frame/fork/geometry damages is HIGHLY recommended. Do NOT simply rely on the information that the seller is providing, even he/she may not be aware of all the problems. Have the crashed bike checked and know what you are getting into.
    • Clean title, Salvage title A clean title doesn't mean the bike is free of serious issues. A Salvaged title doesn't mean the bike may have any problems. Every case is different. Some bikes are seriously damaged in a crash, but an insurance claim is never made on them, so they still have a clean title. Some bikes have had mostly cosmetic damages in a crash, but the insurance company decided to pay off the bike and salvage the title rather than spending the money to fix it. Know what you are getting into and don't make any assumptions based on what the seller is telling you.
    • Registration: Know about the current registration status of the bike. Check with DMV if you have any questions about any possible back fees and other title/registration questions (out of state title, no title with bill of sales only, etc.) before purchasing the bike.

    • If you disagree with a price, keep it to yourself. The seller has set the price. If you don't like it, don't buy it and move on. If you really feel strongly about it, then PM the seller.

California gas filler solution.

I designed and 3d printed a solution to the California gas nozzles and filling my motorcycle tank. I get a full tank of gas and don't have to hold the accordion sealing ring back to get the nozzle to work right. I just stick the nozzle into my filler adapter and push it down (still have to hold it) and fill. No more gas fumes, no more gas on my gloves and it fills right up to the top of the tank. I carry this in my tank bag. They are about 3" in diameter and 2-3" tall., so its going to be big in the pocket of your jacket.

Right now i have the designs for the following motorcycles, and have printed a few of these to test out. I print them in yellow PETG, so you remember its on your gas tank, but I can print them in other colors if you want. Ask me about a specific colors to see if i have it.
They are embossed with the motorcycle model, so you don't forget which one fits which of your extensive collection:
Honda metropolitan scooter 2013-2014 version
1983-84 Honda VT500FT Ascot (shown in White)
1995-current Suzuki DR650 stock gas tank (yellow one shown on the black dr650 stock tank)
Acerbis big rotomolded tank (specifically I have the 5.3 for the DR650, but any Acerbis with their standard cap should work the same), should also fit the IMS tanks since it uses the same(?) Cap. If you have one, let's do a test fit.

1986 Yamaha SRX 600 with the 7 bolt flat recessed gas cap . (Spacer shown in white). This should also work for the SRX250, Radian, YSR50(?), YZF600, YFZ1000, XJ600, FZ600, FZ700, FZ750,.... any that use that same cap (see that pciture).

I have access to the Honda FT500 gas tank, the Yamaha XT350 gas tank, honda CX500T (should fit the CX650T), and Suzuki GN400 tank so I can design those.

Beyond that, I'd need to make some measurements from your gas tank to make one of these. Some are simple to design, and some, like the tiger take a bit more design. (see image).

But I’ve never found it a problem, ever, to hold the accordion thing back while filling my tanks.
 
I can't find the post, but I carry a small, like 2", C Clamp, and use that to hold the boot back.

The issue is the bike height. All of the angles are awkward and uncomfortable, so having the C Clamp to hold the boot back just makes the entire process that much easier, even though its a little fiddly to mount.

I can fuel from different angles, I can see in the tank. The thing never clicks off on me. Pretty sure I could use it to spray fuel around the gas station like in a bad action movie were I so inclined.

I had a post about it, but search on the forum is pretty worthless, so I can't find it.
 
One of the reasons I like the F800ST; you fill it like a car.

Tank is under the seat, putting down the side stand tilts the bike away from you allowing a complete mess free fill.

The mounting ring for my tank bag does a great job.
 
Bad idea to fill any CA emission equipped bike, which is most now, to the top. Overfilling will cause gas to flow from the vent at the top of the fill port into the carbon canister and turn the carbon granules into guacamole. Because the system is designed to route gas fumes and not carbon sludge, the carbon sludge can then back into the vent and your gas tank is now not vented. Fill to the bottom of the tube that the manufacturer so conveniently provided inside your gas tank.
