Hawaii is in for a rough hurricane season!

They've already been hit by 2 storms, now there are 2 more heading roughly in their direction.

I visited Kauai in the early 90's after a hurricane had come through. All of the coral had been decimated, nothing like it had been before the storm hit it.

I have a friend who lives in Kauai. She said this last hurricane was really bad and while her house was fine, a lot of her friend's houses lost roofs etc.

I routinely interact with folks in Hawaii. The last one seems to be pretty bad.

I’ve never been to Hawaii....how common are hurricanes there? As a former South Floridian I thought the Pacific was comparatively chill in that regard.

Governor announced closing of entire islands during the last storm couple of weeks ago, so I guess pretty bad!

Most of them miss the islands altogether. Some hit the big island. The really bad ones dogleg up from the south like Lowell just did.

We have a family house on Kauai. No damage from the last storm but it made a mess of the yard and neighborhood.

The previous serious hurricane on Kauai was Hurricane Iniki in 1992. The museum at the top of Waimea Canyon used to have a whole room with an exhibit about it. I always found that very interesting. Unfortunately that exhibit is now gone as of May when I was there last. There were also a few resort properties that got wrecked in that storm that were still fenced off and not repaired decades later.

Looks like the Hawaiian Islands are back to dealing with hurricanes again.

We could still get it, which would cover the upcoming storms but we are banking on the resort making it good enough in time and if it's a really bad storm the hotel will cancel it. We are in poipu and the hotel pool got filled with sand
They need the business, we need the adventure. It'll be fine?!
