I'm interested in the topic, but I'm equally interested in not being forced to subscribe and download the Substack app.

EDIT: to clarify, this isn’t a dig at Ken. I completely understand why he and others use Substack.

Totally get it. From my perspective, I have a few choices:

- Write and share what I believe is relevant information for free.
- Write and share what I believe is relevant information for a fee.
- Don't do it all

My podcast series has over 3 million listens. I have made less than $.001 from each one. Not that I was doing them for money, I was doing them to broadcast a different perspective on what I think is industry misinformation for my little corner of the world. With over 3 million listens - someone is listening, so that compelled me to go deeper than just a podcast - enter Substack.

With Substack, I get a proven platform to place my stuff. I have the ability to write, do video or podcast, as well as be connected to other motorsports platforms. This costs me money, upfront. Initially, I started Substack and left it free. It worked. Feedback supported there was another level that readers wanted, deeper and more detailed information. Awesome and quite frankly, I wanted to write about it. It's good for me as well as the reader, I learn more. But again, that costs time and money. So yes, I charge $39 a year to subscribe. With what I pay my editor, trust me, I am not running to the bank.

(My last article on trailbraking was the culmination of decades of learning, plus 2 months to write it, not exactly a great return)

Which begs the question. Is it worth registering and downloading an app, plus paying $39 a year worth it for my information? I don't know, that up to you.
