A patch of thick wet mud got me off guard while riding up Sierra Rd. Was slowing down for the SUV in front of me and tried to stay away from the edge of the road. Little did I know about the mud patch the car drove over and boom next think you know I'm riding on top of it....surely enough I go down. Here is the video footage of the incident. No one to blame but myself here.

Sorry to hear about your crash. There are more than a few areas with puddles and mud creeping onto the road though. Hint, hint...

Do you think keeping more distance between you and the SUV ahead would've helped?

can't tell if you hit your front brake too.

distance and rate of approaching a vehicle that is slowing down.
MUST GO STRAIGHT over low traction places, brake after.
Sorry to hear, i always tell ppl to practice low traction manuvers on their bicycles in a wet parking lot. glad ur okay tho, it was funny to see your foot/shoe fly over your head : )

lived and learned?

never ride in the center of a lane, this is were the "trash" tends to stay.

good you did not go off roading. now there could have been a video. :rofl

fix the damage and buff out the scratches. :ride:ride

.

Probably, he should have been able to ride through that no problem.

Thanks for owning up to the crash and glad you came out of it OK. Hope bike repairs don't cost too much. What kind of bike by the way?

Yeah, clearly tucked the front on the brakes from what I could tell. Bummer, but a good lesson to try to follow the tire tracks of leading vehicles, not the centerline where oil and crap accumulates (and where tires don't tend to leave cleaner pavement).

What's your camera setup? It seemed like it fell off in the crash.

Yea noticed quite a few spots. This was also my first time on the road so ;(

I definitely got close to the SUV....and began slowing down as well. I would say about 15ft away till I kissed the inside of my helmet.

I was laughing when I saw that shot as well. Pretty comical...shoulder hurts though ;( haha damnit! I actually do practice low speed traction and I've done my share of goofing around on my bike. This just caught me off guard and I tried to counter steer but both wheels were already caught up in a mess. Oh well though...lesson learned and got a few laughs out of it :)

Lol No off roading at that point. I wouldn't have got up that quickly

Already fixed up the bike and went back riding on Sunday and yesterday ;)

Curious if you hit the brakes.

I was easing up on the front brake..yes. Ever so slightly...and also made the mistake of riding in the middle. Paid for that mistake.

Maybe I coulda rode through that if I wasn't slowing down for sure. Just to put it out there..the mud was more than an inch deep. I looked back at it...and just smh.

Thanks and yes had to own up to my mistake. I was also pretty lucky. I swapped the stock bars for dirt bike renthals bars which kept my tank from the slightest scuff...

Damages:
Bar ends
CrankCase cover
Right Footpeg snapped(this sucked the most)
Minor crack in rear fairing..about an inch..barely visible

Btw I ride a 2004 Honda 919

Yes no more riding in the middle...damnit! ;(

My camera was mounted on the tank...I think the impact tossed it off to the side. I'm just glad it lander facing up so I could see myself fly over lol
