Really stupid idea, but they did it anyways.

Married at First Sight UK brides tell BBC they were raped by on-screen husbands
Warning: contains details of alleged sexual offences and misconduct

Two women have told the BBC they were raped during the filming of one of Channel 4's biggest shows, Married at First Sight UK, while a third has described an allegation of a non-consensual sex act.

The show did not do enough to protect them, they all said.

Channel 4 was aware of some allegations before broadcast, and all the episodes featuring the women had been available on its streaming service.

On Monday afternoon, Channel 4 said it had removed all episodes from streaming and linear services, alongside MAFS UK social channels.

Reacting to our findings, the chairwoman of a new creative industry watchdog described Married at First Sight UK's format as "televised abuse". She is now calling for an independent investigation and says the "dangerous" show should be taken off air.

FFS they’re just a bunch of gold digging broads. They wanted it and now they’re screaming rape. /s

The show is such a stupid concept to begin with.

If you're married surely you gave blanket consent forever. /s

The first couple seasons of the US show was great. They had experts that invested a lot of time into picking the candidates and pairing them. IIRC 1 of the 4 couples each year stayed married, had kids, etc etc. That’s prob more successful than a lot of the judge-y naysayers.

But within a few seasons the show went to complete shit. The experts went missing, the people were awful, and the success rate went to zero. I’m surprised a diff market would even try. I’m less surprised they also failed.

That show was a complete dumpster fire by the final few seasons.

The wifey called it "trash TV" for a good reason.

I mean, some cultures still match and marry folks this way and I’ve read some articles where both parties are really delighted with their relationship. But iirc there were matchmakers involved and probably some astrology of sorts to make sure the stars were aligned.

More on the show...

Married at First Sight Australia stars not told partners had drug and violence convictions
Married at First Sight Australia stars say the show left them feeling unsafe and unprotected because their on-screen partners had criminal pasts which they were not told about, a BBC investigation can reveal.

It comes after the British version of the show, known to many as MAFS UK, was plunged into crisis after BBC Panorama reported rape allegations from two women contestants - allegations the men involved have denied.

One woman from last year's Australian series says she was not told the man she had been matched with had a previous drug conviction and only found out after the show ended. "There should be informed consent," she told us.

We can also reveal that another groom from the same series had a past conviction for affray, which we understand his on-screen bride was not made aware of.

Nine former cast members from MAFS Australia have spoken to the BBC and are now calling on the show to improve its background checks and to stop allowing individuals with previous convictions or allegations on the show.
Seems that they left out some important details for prospective brides.

Any marriage can go wrong.

In my first marriage I thought everything was going very well. Then I found I’d been betrayed. And she had become a cocaine addict and an alcoholic.

Before I married a second time I was a bit worried about her having an extensive sexual history. She was 37 when we met and she’d always been single. But we married and had more than 33 happy years together until she died from Alzheimer's.

One never knows.
