Watching the Colbert Questionnaire, "What is the best sandwich?" is his opening question.

Love me a good Italian sandwich.

Faicco's in NYC.
Proscuitto, ham, capicola, soppressata, fresh mozzarella, lettuce, tomatoes and roasted peppers.

Is it one of these? Yeah, this is bullshit, right?

Jeez... those 10 sandwiches look terrible other than the Brisket.
Polino col Polpo gonna make me :barf

America yo!! Hamburger rulz. :flag

Lake Havasu Toy Run,
Red Onion Grill, the Rubin looked good,
Never in my life, have I bit into a sandwich, first bite, , ,
My first thought as the flavors, jumped.
"I didn't buy enough sandwich".
One bite, I wanted two sammies, to enjoy/finish, NOW !

Katz's pastrami on rye. But at $30 a sandwich, it should be good. I used to live in Saigon, and had good banh mi for under a $1.00, and I often had to eat two. But I can make a decent Dagwood Bumstead sandwich at home.

Cuban Sandwich is likely my favorite.

Pastrami is also a great sandwich as is the Reuben.

Cheesesteak shop hands down.
close second Togos Pastrami. (can't wait only 3 weeks and I get to grub on this one.)
Homemade 18 hour brisket sandwiches
Pulled pork

Make it three and specifically, The Cheesesteak Shop.

In Carneros, Angleo's Wine Country Delicatessen. My fav, a smoked turkey on light rye.

Some of those sandwiches depicted have sea creatures! Please, no tentacles!!

The pastrami at California Sourdough in San Jose.
I grew up eating #9 at togos, but it's been years.
+1 on cheesesteakshop
+11ty billion on burgers
Los Gatos meats has some bomb sandwiches. The tri tip one is my fav.

The best sammich tends to be experiential for me. Not sure I have a best, but I have had some damn good ones. Usually following some sort of two wheeled fun. Used to stop at a spot for cheesesteak sammies, house made potatoe chips and a pitcher of beer after a good MTB ride with my buddies back in Colorado. That sammich was always perfection.

Langers Pastrami in LA. Amazing sandwich.

We have a chain down here called "Philly's Best" that does cheesesteaks, and they are excellent.

I'm quite fond of Paneras current Toasted Italian. I generally don't like my cold cut sandwiches to taste like they're fresh off sitting on the dashboard all day, but it works with this sandwich.

I used to love their #16, I still think the have the best Capicola, but they've changed the sandwich over time subtley.

I also used to love their BBQ, which dropped completely for some unfathomable reason.

Jersey Mike's Italian Sub (#13? I think) is a solid benchmark sandwich. I like their bread.

The one I happen to like the best is the Jersey Mike's Big Kahuna Cheesesteak with Chipotle Mayo added. Not every shop does it right, but there's one south of me that makes it perfectly every time. You know it's good if you make a total mess eating the thing.

just gonna throw it out there, no chain is gonna make "the best" anything

You could piss off a lot of coffee nerds by saying Starbucks is the best :laughing

One of my favorites is the pulled pork from Fatted Calf.

For me, the sandwich also depends on the job at hand. For cycling or a quick meal, a PB&J is the cat's meow. Not too much stuffing in the gut and a nice mix of fat & carbs.
