StonyBARF 22 April 30 to May 3, 2026

I'm pretty well Stonyforded out.......We do want to come visit though!

Tracie and I are planning to ride down early Saturday AM and will leave when people start heading out for rides.

It's been a day or two since I've seen @motocatfish too!
Aw man... I'm sorry to hear that, but glad to see you guys if you do drop by.

Has anyone heard from John @m0t0_ryder? I haven't seen him post much lately.

Also, let’s have another potluck. Confirmed list isn’t that big right now, but we can still move the tables together and have a meal together!

Potlucks are always fun. Hmmm . . . what to make?

My ears are burning! ;-) Its been a little while, huh? It would be good to see y'all again too.

Stony has been a favorite for more than 40 years, but my riding days are getting shorter & shorter.

Butch suggested I offer some dirt coaching this year. If folks are interested let me know. After breakfast would work best, & then practice on the trails.

Hoping for some spring weather!

A little rain to pack things down again? Hopefully no gully washing cells!

Better hurry- no telling what it will be like if that new/massive reservoir goes in.

The Sites Reservoir Project is a proposed $6.8 billion, 1.5-million acre-foot offstream reservoir located 80 miles northwest of Sacramento near Maxwell and Stonyford, aiming to capture Sacramento River floodwater. Construction is expected to begin in 2026, with operation planned for 2032

Might cool the area down a bit? Old timers told me Redding cooled off quite a bit when Whiskeytown went in.

I am starting from scratch on dirt and can use all the coaching I can get, for what it's worth

Good attitude for learning ... how to dance with your dirtbike! That's what I call it. :)

For some light reading, I recommend Doc Wong's Dirt Riding Techniques page.

These are the basics that everyone teaches. Drills & personalities will vary from coach to coach, but our goals are the same.

For a more in depth read of the basics & beyond, here are excerpts from Carl Shipman's "The Boonie Book" (1974).

I used to think this would really screw things up, but fear not the north bypass from I5 to Willows to 162 to [306] is actually MUCH more of a quality ride and less potholes. A far better experience IMO.

Leave the Maxwell Sites rd to dual sport / adv riders.

Last time I looked at the map, there was a bridge planned across the lake.

The bypass is my recommendation in interim while the construction is happening [if ever, do you really think they will build a 20mil bridge for 600 people in the area?]

The reservoir thing concerns me, mostly because I think our water thing is a huge thing.
Huge
