Football is life. Late-stage capitalism is not. Im enjoying the schadenfreude of seeing the reports of empty hotels and the like. Price gougers and unwelcoming public policies can f right off. I’m hoping this World Cup blows up in all the right faces.

That and fear of coming to the US are hardly leading to an economic boon.

My friend has tickets, to two of the games I think.

He paid zany amounts of money, and he had very little say in which games he got. There was a ticket lottery, and thats how he got them. The official WC provider. They were still crazy amounts of money, not even from scalpers. (And I must say, I tried to get tickets to a random Lakers game, just for fun. But the nosebleed tickets from the Lakers site were $400 each, so, that didn't happen.)

I think one of them is Iran v Sweden.

He may try to sell the tickets to the other games.

He's been trying to get me to go along, but I've declined. I don't know the game, and I don't think he can teach me enough for it to be interesting in one day at the stadium.

It's funny, I have been to a World Cup game. Someone gave him a pair of tickets to the game that determines who's #3 and #4 in the tournament when it was hear last in '94. We got to see it at the Rose Bowl.

And...it was a bunch of guys running around on a field chasing a ball.

Good luck to all the participants, hope the fans have fun!

I don't know much about the tournament but you can get FIFA player cups at McDonalds. I saw the ad when I was getting coffee.

All you soccer fans enjoy the tourney.

FIFA screwed over the common man on this tourny (Pretty sure this was discussed before). I'll watch online and maybe check out a fan zone but that's it.

Somali referee denied visa to ref games in world cup.
My guess is that FIFA president won't say anything.
