Where do we post political memes?

I get the impression you guys think im trying to be a pain in the ass. Im not. Im trying ensure I can stay within the letter of the law. I post a lot if different media. I don’t want to post a meme. I’m not arguing that they should be permissible. I’m arguing for clarity so I don’t post banned content.

My apologies if the “I know it when I see it” standard is insufficient for my level of comprehension.

This in not the foundation of any fair and consistent policy I can think of.

We need a real test if we want to put this issue to bed. Let me offer my version of a means test for memes.

Does the post:

1. Consist of a single panel photo or photo shopped image?
2. Only contain txt overlayed on said image and no where else?
3. Offer no explanation of either the image or the text?
4. try to invoke a reaction without offering any information?

if all the above criteria are met, I would be ok defining a post as a meme.

I think we need a working definition. If anyone reading this has a better definition, please do chime in.
This right here is what a fucking meme is. Locking that last thread because of the Instagram post is bullshit

Given that the policy has been in effect for years and you don’t have a tendency to post banned content, it seems like you know it when you see it too.

Um, I do believe an instagram post that I do not consider a meme has indeed been judged a meme. Am I wrong in thinking my instagram post about oil company profits was considered a meme?

Also, I use the mean girls mosh pit group DM to post what I consider boarder line content. I post quite a bit in there in part because quite often things are ambiguous to me.

Just to put a finer point on it, yes I agree banned content was posted about the election. Im not arguing that those posts weren’t memes. They easily failed my little test. They were obviously memes. I want to know where that line is. Yes it can be fuzzy. That fuzziness is why we need a clear test.

I just want a constant, concise definition of a meme* that I can work with. Your full quote doesn’t help me there. “I know it when I see it” is a recipe for strife. If you don’t want ambiguity, have test.
I want.
Who cares.
Why do you feel such an insatiable need to post political memes?

Then WHAT is it about? Please define that for ME.

In what world does this image not qualify as a meme? Just because it's accompanied with text? Just because it's not the only image? Nope, not going to buy it.

We're not going to define it. If we tried, more than a few of you would argue our definition. bikeama explained it. People got butthurt, acted out, and it created more (unnecessary) work for the moderators. Historically when we've created a well defined rule, we get people that pride themselves on walking right up to the edge of that rule without crossing over it.

When in doubt, don't post it on BARF. If you choose to post it anyway, accept the consequences. A meme (actually 2 memes) were posted by someone that recently was suspended for posting a meme. :facepalm

It's our discretion to define what a meme is. When I tried warning someone, and that was apparently too much for his fragile ego.

Political memes are only funny to those that agree with them, to the others it's ragebait and it got out of hand in the original PSink and caused Bud to declare that memes are not acceptable in the PSink. We carried that rule over to PSink2.

  • Bud doesn't want them
  • They caused shitty interactions in PSink1
  • They created more work for the Staff
  • Bud doesn't want them on his forum. A forum that he funds out of his pocket. The best freaking motorcycle forum. The best forum period.

  1. So as long as a 2nd (non-meme) image is included, the post gets a pass?
  2. So as long as a line or 2 (or 3-4-5-6-7?) of text is added below the image, the post gets a pass?
  3. So, any image?
  4. See #2.

if I had doubts about that being a meme I would have posted it in the mosh pit like I usually do. To me it was much more like the other intatagram post that no one has had a problem with.

I understand that bumper sticker posts cause problems. I agree they don’t add value. I disagree that what I posted was that.
This level of angry pushback is pretty fucked up.
