Here's my Hyper Moto.

I know she's heavier and more powerful the the run of the mill Supermoto, but hey I'm 50 and I'm more attracted to Italian's girls.

I miss the power of the SMC compared to this. but the SMC had its issues too.

I guess if I had the extra money the smc would be my pick but the DR will work out great once I get it to where I want it.

Thats my fear. I would have to make a monster DRZ to compare to the SMC.

love it! One of the best mods i think i did to the bike. After i get my full system i want to get a fcr carb then get a bunch of head work done.

yup, already thinking about it

Don't do it. Had a freind that went nuts with his DRZ (440 kit / high compression... Etc). Spent a small fortune on it - still a whole lot heavier then my 530 and about as reliable as my 530 was. He went through two top ends in one summer in 08. Not a good summer. Result - he sold it. :wtf

If you want a power ape - KEEP your DRZ and buy a closeout 08 old stock SXV 4.5 - they are going for DIRT cheap. The cost would be about the same:

Its got a plate too.

If he went through 2 top ends in a summer he was going wrong somewhere. There are plenty of high mileage (40k+) DRZs out there with BB kits on them. A quality BB kit is around 350$, so depending on if you do your own labor or not, you can get a good boost for under a grand, between that, a flatslide, and some cams.

The motors are tuned really soft stock, especially when you get the street model without the proper flatslide on it.

You need to change the oil 6 times to the DRZ's one in an SXV, by the way, and that's if you're doing the 500 mile changes. There's a lot more to cost of ownership on those SXVs than just purchase price.

How does it do in the dirt with the SM suspension? Or did you soften up the ride for off-roading?

I never bothered stiffening it up for pavement to begin with. Stock is OK for my 145lbs.
It is a problem jumping it hard, it will bottom out completely but for fire roads its just fine.
