1989 Honda NT650 Hawk GT custom

My son is taking MSF in a few weeks. What do you think about this bike for someone who is about 6’ as a first bike? I was thinking about steering him toward something in the 300-400 range. But these seem like such good bikes

I loved my GT when I had it, but I wouldn't get one for a new rider today. It's almost 40 years old.

Get them something with a supply chain.

It's a Honda, it doesn't need a supply chain because they never die. Not to mention this one is rather well maintained.

I would not recommend it for somebody 6 ft tall.

I am 5'11 with a 33-in inseam and the bike is small for me. That's one of the reasons I know I need to sell it. If I could fit on it and ride it comfortably, I would. I do take it out, but my legs always feel cramped. I am spoiled riding larger liter adventure bikes and dirt bikes though

As I said in many of the previous postings, this is a great bike for a shorter rider. I have had several of them for ex-girlfriends over the years and for my wife and they all averaged about 5'4" to 5'8"

Also agree with the sentiment for a new rider to get something more modern, and, hate to say it but, disposable.

Thanks for your interest

Tempting but I have a couple already. And im out of state, good thing!! LoL.
For sale in Truckee ca/Reno

Cult classic bike especially for the inseam challenged.

1989 nt650 hawk GT
Fully rebuilt from the bare frame up about 15 years ago and only ridden probably 1500 mi total since then.
I have decommissioned and recommissioned it every year draining fuel, etc. current CA registration through 2025.

Highlights...
- fully rebuilt top end 1500 miles ago (30k on bike iirc)
-700 CC Hord Power big bore pistons
- fully rebuilt heads and overbore by engine dynamics Petaluma
- tapered steering bearings
- f2 adjustable upper fork tubes
- f2 front wheel
- gold valves in forks
- brand new chain and steel sprockets
- shorai battery
- stock CV carbs rejetted with uni pods
- mikuni vacuum fuel pump
- like new unridden angel GT tires 120/160
- everything very clean, gone through, replaced or upgraded as needed.
- stock exhaust to be quiet but still has a nice growl
- The bike was rhino lined when I got it, I stripped all the rhino liner off (absolute nightmare) rear cowl and front fender are rattle can satin black, tank was stripped bare and given a cool texture with a grinding wheel and then rattle can clear coated. (Zoom in to the pic on the lift for more detail)

My wife and I rebuilt this together while we were dating, (I worked in a vintage Honda shop and I know these bikes well, this is the 4th one I owned/built)
15 years and two kids later she's decided she's probably done riding and we should sell it. I love it but we don't use/need it.
I went through everything last summer as I was going to bring it on our cross country RV trip as a second vehicle/toy but the RV drove like crap with the weight back there so I left it home.
That's when it got a full service, new tires, chain and sprockets (chain still has the factory grease all over it, fresh out of the packaging)

Needs nothing but a new home/rider

$4k
Updated price 4/13/25 $3200

I also have a CBR 900RR shock and f2 clip-ons for a different ergonomic experience.
I also have a large crate full of spares including heads and other engine and body parts included, spare seat and lots more

Pic on lift is current, showing paint on cowl and fender, other pix are older.
Curious, you just have the Hord pistons. So bottom end is stock as well as the heads?

Yes, JD hord 700cc pistons, Stock bottom end.
heads rebuilt by engine dynamics in Petaluma, it was a while ago, I don't remember if it's new valves, but I definitely did not do oversized valves or cams or head work.

I offer you $27 hobo dollars and my undying love.
