Took this photo of the F/A 18 at the air and space museum in SD. Growing up in SF, it was always exciting to see them fly during fleet week.

I love that the tip of the aircraft is a phillips head screw.

Just to be a contrarian, I'm going to cite some radial engined (I love the sound!) civilian aircraft.

Lockheed Super Constellation
Staggerwing Beech
DeHaviland Beaver (my BIL had one!)

Not experiencing lift at the moment,
all drag, and hanging on thrust ?

I have watched a pair of Worties, fly air currents against a hill, trying to soar.
Two jet powered crop dusters, playing.
I watched the same from a Red Tailed Hawk, and a Raven, playing with summer lift, in the wind.

I get to watch local, there is a biplane with a big radial, not so much stagger in these wings,

I've always liked the RA-5C Vigilante
The Vigilante was ahead of its time. One of my XO’s flew them. Told me that they used to piss off the Phantom pilots that were assigned to escort them. The Vigi’s would launch after their escorts and catch them before going ‘feet wet’ then have to slow down to not run away from the Phantoms on the mission, then outrun them back to Mother.
