My only question is with the name.
The Valkyries?? Sounds like a portly, clunky cruiser.
They should have a name that reflects their speed and nimble agility.....
Clearly, they should be called The GSXR's.![]()
Well, sure, you would say that!
The true Valkyries came along way before Honda's big cruiser. And their name does reflect speed and agility. Valkyries are known for flying through the air and swiftly choosing the most heroic of soldiers from the battlefields and whisking them away to Valhalla. They had to quickly maneuver themselves in and out during the chaos of battle. They were sometimes depicted with fjaðrhamr, feather jackets made of swans wings. Also, there is usually some sort of connection to the men's teams, so Warriors and Valkyries definitely go together. And it's way better than being called the Dream
- V-Shape: The overall shape of the emblem forms a "V," representing both the Valkyries name and victory.
- Bay Bridge Tower & Sword: The center structure represents the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridgetower, which doubles as a sword to symbolize power, courage, and warrior strength.
- Bridge Cables & Wings: The suspension cables fan outward to look like wings (referencing the mythic ability of Valkyries to fly) and create five triangles on each side, representing five-on-five basketball play.
- 13 Lines: There are 13 total lines incorporated from the top of the sword/tower, signifying the Golden State Valkyries as the 13th franchise in the WNBA.
- Valkyrie Violet: The distinctive purple color scheme is chosen to represent nobility, power, regalness, and women's empowerment. [1, 2, 3, 4]
These ladies crack me up. They are at every game!
