Title pretty much says it all. Niece wants to go shooting. She's done it withe her dad, but I want her to take new shooter class regardless.

Thanks!

I don’t know of any but good on you for getting her some training.

Look into private instruction. General area?

What does she want to shoot?

Took a friend and his kid weeks ago. Started with a lever action .22 and red dot.

Call some other shops for recommendations. Someone will likely know.

Now why didn’t I think of that? I’m a regular there.

Good idea.

The decades old caLguns.net is on CPR, barely working. A new board came along and is growing massively, that's CAGUNS.net (<-- no "L")

I still try to get on at CalGuns, but it’s hit and miss. Mostly miss. Sad that Kes didn’t accept all the help that was offered. And sad that he doesn’t provide updates.

I'm an NRA certified Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun & Muzzle loader instructor as well as USAA Level 2 archery instructor. I'm also the shooting sports director for my Scouting council, so I'm pretty familiar with teaching youths. If you want to send me a PM, we could arrange something. Basically I would run her through the First Steps program we use for scouts.

Here's a cut/paste from a few responses on CaGuns:

Try T3 Pros of Richmond, CA I'd recommend contacting them with further questions.

If she has no or very little shooting experience I would suggest Bay Area Tactical. The atmosphere is pretty chill and they are pretty good with beginners. I like T3 and have taken classes with them 3 times, they are a little more on the advanced side. You need equipment and should be pretty familiar with your gun to take a T3 class. You don't need anything to take a class at Bay Area Tactical.

If she is anywhere near Reed’s, look into Bill Tidwell’s basic class. There is also a women only class there. I don’t know if either have age restrictions.

How old is the niece?
A good start is the NRA Women on Target program.
From there she can take NRA Basic Pistol and Basic Rifle.
There are (roughly) monthly classes in Sebastopol. They can be found in the NRA website in the training pages.

Cool. Times change. I used to shoot regularly at an indoor County range in San Jose. There were always NRA folks there who wanted to help. It was awesome. I am looking for that. Same sort of hands-on be familiar safety shit now. More suggestions?

KW Defense in Stockton have Kids class every last Friday of the month. $25 per child
