I agree.Kids are caught between long-term messaging COLLEGE FOR ALL and reality about how elite, well-paying jobs are actually awarded.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I feel high school kids are focused by their parents, school administrators and society on college as the ONLY viable destination after graduation.
There is no exposure to alternatives like apprenticeship programs in the trades, joining the military, police or firefighting, international service organizations, vocational schools, etc.
“Oh no, you wouldn’t want to do that” if the topic comes up.
All the talk is about the A to G requirements to get into UC or CSU like it’s an assembly line with kids on a conveyor belt that must be maintained.
Not everyone is college material. Not everyone WANTS to stay in school another 4-5+ years.
It’s a one size fits all approach that is distasteful to me.
