So to bring this forum back to the top posting a little thing I picked this weekend.

So turns out Winchester had a rebate going for Black Friday where you got $35 mail in rebate for Wildcat rifles which is their 10/22 competitor. I found the one I wanted in stock at a local Academy and rushed over to pick it up. Its a nice little rifle and my first non-AR patterned rifle cartridge platform. It even has a threaded barrel for my 22lr suppressor to cut down some of the noise. one of my grandsons has expressed an interest in hunting so picked this up so he can learn the basics and then we will upgrade him to a hunting caliber platform in the future once he learns the basics of marksmanship and safe gun handling.

Red dot instead of scope UNLESS you want to smooth the transition from .22LR to bigger bore? If you are an AR guy, probably have something in hand? I've no experience with them but Appleseed events would appear to be beneficial to a new (grandson) shooter.

Current Black Friday purchases, bulk AA, AAA and 9volts and flashlights for the family.

I had forgotten about Appleseed will have to see if we have an event around here. I looked there aren't any really nice LVPO ones I would have to go 2-x to get something but may spring for one just so he can get used to a scope after the open sites. I do have a Nikon 22lr on my M&P15-22 so maybe look for another one as its pretty nice.

Picked up a 3 pack of 10rd and one 25rd 10/22 mags for the rifle. Was going to start doing some teaching this weekend but we have rain again and the temps go up and mosquitos get active so may have to postpone.

so it uses ruger mags? how would you compare / contrast to an actual 10/22?

I don't actually have a Ruger 10/22 and haven't shot one so couldn't really do a compare but from shooting it a bit this weekend I like it. Showed the grandson how to shoot, gave him the rules, had him repeat the rules many times and let him have at it. He did pretty good with the ghost ring rear and blade front site. Granted we weren't but 15 yards from the target but he got most of the 10rds in the black. I also like that it has a threaded barrel so I can put my 22 can on it and 10/22s I saw didn't have that feature locally. Also has mounted pic rail so I got a cheap little LVPO for it from Amazon that has a shitty eye box but with a 22 don't have to worry about scope bite so figure that's not an issue now and will address it when we move up in caliber but all my other rifles are AR pattern rifles and I have those tuned so the recoil is really not that bad.

From what I can see not a lot of aftermarket stuff for it and not sure if that's because its new or 10/22 has the market cornered if you want to supe up a 22lr.

after a few more sessions with the rifle going to introduce him to the wonderous world of 2lr pistols. My Taurus TX22 comp is a joy to shoot.

How does the TX22 slot in with the Ruger and Walther?
Killing me you guys. Glad to know everyone thinks I have shot all the guns. :troy

Don't know about the others but if you want a comparison to the GSG 1911 22lr I cant do that. The GSG sucks the big one it was a jam-o-matic and didn't really like anything I fed it but I got really good at clearing malfunctions with it. TX22 Comp eats everything and is very accurate. It also Hollywood quiet when you put a can on it. I haven't gotten a red dot for it yet but that is on the list after I figure out if I am a fan of red dots on pistols or not. Not the biggest fan on my 9mms but maybe it just takes some getting used to.

I almost got a Ruger MK IV 22/45 lite but the price tag was kind of high and the TX 22 Comp came out and I had heard nothing but good things about it so I went with Taurus despite all the bad I had heard about them but its been a standout pistola for me.
