Boot Thread - First pair of work boots.

I’ve wasted money several times on boots and shoes that I thought were comfortable when trying on in the store but then hated later after buying.
Some of those I’ll leave in storage at work as backups which could be years until someone eventually throws them out.
I have been using Amazon to try stuff out if they carry the brands you like. I wear them around the house for a day or two so they don't get dirty and I can see how I like them for more than the 2 or 3 minutes I try them out at the store.

Nah, it makes things easier. When it comes to shoes I don't have to consider style... I just buy whatever comes in my size. :laughing

On the tree work subject, I had a standing dead lodgepole that had an ominous lean towards a neighbor’s house. Felled it in late September. This is the top coming off:

held my breath watching the spin. me and him sawed one off at the ground (total rookies - but it was only 40 feet so we gave it a shot). it went into a spin and he gave me a huge shove out the way. massive pucker moment. hired professionals only from there on out. much respect.

What gave me pause was seeing how close the camera operator was to big weight and dead limbs. Those things can fly 50' with force. When I was in the tree biz ground injuries were much more common than climber injuries, and more severe. In this clip the top rotated 180 and the skinny end had the potential to fling off branch debris. I'm sure the camera angle distorts the situation and the expertise is evident.

OK boot geeks. I need a 6" work boot, waterproof, for walking and standing on pavement all day. Wide width a bonus.

I'm just looking at all these options. I like boots, and since I'm standing all day at the bike shop I've been dealing with some tendinitis on my Achilles. I figure boots might help there but they'd need to be good for walking and pedaling. Used to like doc martens before they outsourced with manufacturing and quality took a dive, last pair I bought about ten years ago sucked and would cause foot problems if I wore them on days I was walking a lot.

My first riding boots were GI issued too. Wore these for decades. Gave my mukluks and bunny boots to my brother when I left living in the northeast.

Many years of work boots, driving fork lifts, mobile/RV factories,
Lots of walking & carrying, hand trucks, gravel to pavement,
My goto were Red Wing lace ups with the softer wedge sole.
Also ok for use as a Hot Shoe, in dirt, for a quick couple of laps.

Now we go into winter?
Nothing like a pair of Sorell's , to climb into after bombing the slopes in ski boots all day.
When night falls, dinner bell ringing, then the bar crawl, with or without fresh snow to stomp.
Hittin' the dance floor, with what? Seems everybody is sportin' Sorell's ,
They will be forever known as, Tahoe City Dancing Slippers.

I know that some of the running shoe companies make some hiking boots that enjoy all the benefits of their cushy running shoes with a little support for the ankles. Altra, if you like zero drop and I believe Topo has one too. Worth a quick search.
