he was on his way west over Sonora Pass to find some dispersed camping for the night. he had some water for us, but we were good.

and onto the trouble-truck in Mariposa, this afternoon. problem was failed gas tank liner gumming up the works:



the Scout is his “B” bike, put into service for our western Sierra foothills route, today.

for those of you who follow vintage exploits here on BARF, Mr John was the trouble-truck driver that was involved in the head on collision with the drunk driver near Auburn on the first morning of the NorCal TT last September. so it was nice to see him fully recovered after that scary drama.

I’ll try to confirm, but I don’t think we had any original-owner bikes at this event.

I was told this morning that they’ve moved the cut-off date forward to “pre-1980” bikes, so I only need to wait ‘til the impending move to pre-‘85 bikes and I can bring my original-owner 1985 Evo H-D Superglide.

yes, the Auburn/Sierra City event is still on. I’ll ask Mr @kalle to confirm and will post up the details here, but the rider’s meeting should be at the same hotel in Auburn on 09/12/2026.

I can bring my original-owner 1985 Evo H-D Superglide.

Then, I will be able to ride in two of my bikes!

But if I were making the rules, my 1984 would not qualify nor would any bike that is new enough to have disc brakes!

I rode my 1971 BMW R75/5 here from my Reno home a while back. No disk brakes! I purchased it new in May of 1971, just after I got out of the army--with the money that was difficult to spend in the Central Highland jungles of Vietnam. I still recall the price tag, $1,845.00. But that was the BS price. Out the door was well over 2K$, which seemed like a ton of cash back then.

Purchased from Menlo Cycles, back then was on El Camino in Menlo Park.

wrt “no disk brakes!”—with these vintage rides things get murky … no one would argue that this bobber isn’t a “vintage” bike, but as Mr Kalle likes to say “stopping is sexy.”





the AMCA has a 35 year rolling eligibility requirement, which makes my fuel-injected, water-cooled, triple-disk-brake’d 1988 BMW K75s officially eligible as a Antique Motorcycle Club of America bike …

be that as it may, I’ll get the details about where and when the rider’s meeting is in Auburn on 09/12/2026, asap—we’ve had lots of folks stop by to see us off over the years, so you are definitely welcome, and they would enjoy seeing you!

How long will you all be there? Is there a window of the time I should show up?

That is a whole 5.6 miles from my house here! I see it is just next to Awful Annie's, probably the best place for breakfast for many miles, including all of Auburn.

I really like their Cherrywood Smoked Bacon Benedict. Best I have ever had anywhere.

But all their benedicts are great. Breakfast menu here.
