Looking for some campground recommendations for the last weekend in August. Looking for:

- Close to the East Bay (1-2 hour drive max from East Bay)
- Warm (no summer fog please, leaves out the coast)
- Kid Friendly
- Dog Friendly

An example of what I am looking for is like Del Valle Regional, but they are all booked.

So what ya got?

Mt Diablo

Angel Island

Sugar Loaf.

Try to get Campsite #15.
It's flat, has a great fire pit, relatively secluded from neighbors, but still close to the restrooms.
You can lay out in the field and see crazy stars.

Thank you for the recommendations. :thumbup

He said 1-2 hr drive...:laughing

This will be the first camping trip for my daughter. I would love to go to Angel Island but I think I might wait until we get a couple of trips under our belt.

Mt Diablo, don't know why I never thought of that for camping. :dunno

Sugar Loaf.

I'm going to look into Sugarloaf. We lived in Sonoma for a few years and never went to that park. I also have a friend just down the road in Kenwood with a pool in case it is blazing hot :thumbup

Cashe may be a little far, but with the river there, it would be a great place to go a litter earlier in the summer.

Brannan Island has been on my short list. I'm gonna look into that too, thanks.

The Outdoor writer for The Chronicle / SF Gate, Tom Stienstra, has a great book on CA camping. Dude won't write about a site if he has not been there. Book has 1400+ campsites in it :wtf

I like Camanche- the folks up there have three more teeth than Lake Oroville. :toothless

I was just up there in June and it sucked, from the loud a$$ talking at 3 am, to the carloads just cruising the campground slow enough to make me think they were gonna pull a drive by. F' that!!!! I'd rather take a drive to Clear Lake or something

If you are looking for a family friendly, warm location, this might be up your alley for the first camping for your kid. Lots of activities, great hiking at Boggs a short drive away, plus a short drive from the village of Cobb if you need supplies, a coffee fix, pizza, etc.

They have a big music festival every year that I go to. Fun. Call about dogs, but I have not seen any no dogs signs when I was there in the past.

I went here 4 weeks ago. It's right next to Manteca.

There's a lazy river. You take floaties, float down the river for 30-40 minutes to the last beach, get off , walk back 5-10 minutes and do it again, hammered ass drunk of course. The river makes this place what it is.

THere's a giant cast iron fire pit with a grate for grilling.
No curfew on the fire pit as long as you don't disturb your neighbors.
(There are usually lots of families)

You're 10 minutes from Manteca if you need any supplies but you wouldn't know it from the campground. No light pollution at night so you can stargaze
