Cars that make your jaw drop.

guess this was back in 2014 … I have a memory of one of the former Dakar Porsche 959 racer’s engine completely disassembled on a workbench. sooo cool. :laughing
A few months ago I got a behind the curtain walkthrough and counted 14 959s and 5 917s. Every visit is a jaw dropping moment.

10 years ago I saw an older gentleman assembling a flat 12 from a 917. He was kind enough to stop and speak with me. I learned that he was one of the original engine builders for multiple teams running the 917. He showed me his original notebook of the build of the very engine he was working on. I was speechless.

This pic was taken 13 years ago.

That’s a really, REALLLLLY small group of people that fall into that description.

And I don’t care about publicly badmouthing him since I’d never go to him for a job. You can throw a rock in any direction in my business and probably hit someone who’s heard or firsthand knows he’s a complete nightmare to work for.
Lol. My ex used to be the assistant to his dentist. Said dentist was part of the man in questions extended family so, I would get a little second hand drama now and then. Surprisingly good patient once the sedatives kicked in and he couldn't say much. :laughing

My friend has been there 4years. He tells me the turnover rate is through the roof and most employees only last about 3-4 months.
When a shop has an employment listing for a technician up pretty much in perpetuity on all the usual job sites…that’s a pretty good sign to people that don’t even know the lore of working there that it’s a revolving door.

Yeah, but what a shop

Yeah, but what a shop
That it is. Truly just an amazing place. One of the few times a shop thrives despite the shop’s owner spending years upon years doing their very best to not deserve it.

I wonder how much that disrupts the workflow & continuity.
I was foreman in a shop with very little turnover, and things ran smoothly for years. I knew what everyone’s strengths and weaknesses were, and distrubuted work accordingly. We had almost no comebacks ever and work got completed very fast.

And where I’m at currently, there was quite a bit of churn in the first year. Everytime someone new comes in, we don’t know what they can do, so they get spoon fed easier work to try and ease them into things. But that just loads up the shit work on everyone else…which of course gets resented. Plus the new guy will always be a burden on everyone else for awhile getting acclimated with the shop’s specific protocols (how do I use this program, where do I dispose of oil, what’s the test drive route, etc) in addition to actual help with problems on cars. So yeah, it gets old when you’re constantly “onboarding” new people.

Must be a helluva exercise in patience to work at Canepa with that situation constantly happening.

Or a helluva pay check to not sweat it?
