Brian & Patrick Moriarty were both in the SF Northstars MC. When we camped at the Loon Lake Chalet annually, the 2 of them would drink & tell Baja stories until the 1st one passed out. Pat wrote a number of CB articles on test bikes & travel over the years.
One year Brian brought up the KTM 400 & 620 test bikes for us to test on the Rubicon.
Yes, that's my fat-ass testing the 620 suspension, jumping off a 4-foot ledge.
In 2001, Brian told us in a club meeting about the Aprilia Caponord they were going to get to test. I told him if there was any time between his testers had it vs. when it was due back to Scuderia, to PLEASE let me test it!
I was so impressed by the Caponord I had to park it next to my favorite moto. They are shockingly similar in power, handling, and comfort. I had it for 5 days & put 1000 miles on it, after work each day, before returning to Scuderia. I put a deposit down for a new silver one.
The club faded away, Brain moved away, & we lost track. I got to see him again in 2018 when he came to Pat's Celebration of Life.
I still have a stack of favorite CB issues squirreled away somewhere.
