Earthquake preparedness thread - post your suggestions or questions

Hey, I'm in SD and didn't get a warning. Lame.... lol

The SD quake was about 30mi from my place and is the only shaking I can remember in the past 10yrs. The fish tanks sloshed and spilled a little and some things fell over in the pantry - no issues otherwise. Fun times.

I wonder if the alert went out into Mexico.
About the same time as LA fires, but wasn't publicized much....

The prevalant winds are more likely to blow a US fire into Baja then the other way around so.....

It's the anniversary of the Loma Prieta quake. Does everyone have their kits together? Because I sure don't! :laughing

I do, and I know where they are, but I've moved to somewhere a lot less likely to have an earthquake, so less likely to need them.

When I first moved I was telling people that I was happy to no longer live in a house right on the Calaveras Fault, and we managed to have a 6.5 earthquake up in the hills not that far away less than a year after the move. I'm not sure where to go that is 100% earthquake-free.

It's a good reminder to check your kits, and re-fresh food and meds. Also a good time to go over meet up plans if it were to happen while you are at work and need to connect up with your family members.

We've got earthquake insurance on ours.

Pain in the ass to pay for for some reason through AAA. Call at night, they know how, not sure why the day shift doesn't.

Our gobag is mostly child/pet specific with some basic survival and needs to get us through 48 hours.

After that, resources should be on scene based on the previous disasters I've been through. It may be CVS underwear and fruit snacks but it's better than nothing.

Anyone carrying earthquake insurance on your house?
Yes, we have it on our house and the rental our daughter lives in as the Roger Creek Fault is just yards from both. Also had both 1950s houses retrofitted by Bolt Down The Bay Area.

Two other newer rentals are further away and built more recently so no Earthquake Insurance on those.

Yeah, FWIW -
The Rodgers Creek Fault runs approximately 63 miles (101 km) from just north of San Pablo Bay through Santa Rosa and continues south of Healdsburg, forming the northern continuation of the Hayward Fault and part of the San Andreas Fault system. It is a right-lateral strike-slip fault, meaning the Pacific Plate side moves north relative to the North American Plate side. Recent LiDAR mapping shows the fault consists of multiple strands, extends farther north than previously thought, and includes complex connections toward the Bennett Valley-Maacama Fault system and the Hayward Fault beneath San Pablo Bay .

From Healdsburg down to San Jose & ties into the San Andreas, that's "only" about 150+ miles through some of the most densely populated areas in CA. If it pops, we're farked. -
