Gas Prices

That's like Oregon. The white line *IS* the shoulder and then it's a ditch. Most folks are pretty kind but the middle aged women seem intent on mowing me down more than any other demographic. :later
Shit I was in the SUV last night going to the gym and some lady in a smaller white SUV started weaving all over the place coming towards me and I started trying to figure out how to avoid her on a 2 lane road with no shoulder if she came in my lane. I would have shit myself if I had been on a bike and this is not an uncommon occurrence.

Most of the folks around me are pretty respectful. The younger dudes in the old Toyota tater trucks or other cheaper older trucks are extremely respectful. Probably because they’ve pedaled along this road recently before they had their license. It’s weird who is and isn’t kind towards me as a pet/cyclist.

Our roads are NOT busy so there’s no excuse to be a chode.

Not busy

in the least here just shit drivers I blame it on being super rural so they figure who gives a fuck let me browse my phone or drive drunk only going to hit cows or drainage ditch. Also lots of brodozers so they feel invincible. Can you tell I have a deep loathing for my fellow drivers here? :laughing

The people who daily their brodozers and those "rollin' coal"....wonder how they are feeling about these gas prices?

The price still isn't too bad here it's only gone up about 30 cents a gallon for gas haven't checked diesel but haven't need to fill up the tractor so don't pay attention to that one as much.

Are you choosing that demographic because they are typically in fervent support of he who started the war and caused prices to rise and you think pain at the pump would turn them against the chosen one?
If so, you must not understand cults

The "coal rollers" are the type of clowns who think it's funny to trigger people. There's a load of them in the current administration.

But then again, many of their critics own cars/bikes with no catalytic converters. In fact I would guess about half of all riders have removed theirs. So who are they to talk about excess pollution.

Recovering Catholic...I know a bit about being in a cult.

Everyone thinks/hopes this is temporary or transitory. Is it?

Just wait until the price of all other goods start the creep....

CA voters are the ones who approved the last few gas tax hikes. So....why aren't we blaming....ourselves?
I was blaming CA voters before it passed. Actually reading the Bill made it seem insane.. Total BS on fixing the roads. 1/2 goes to the CHP. Guess what?

They don't do asphalt.

It was like the trickle down BS. A small part ends up as asphalt.

However it is the people that throw those Bills up and use critical / emotional Bullshit to sell them. Are those the legislators spoken of?

I blame both the dumb voters and the ones that lie to get their way while saying VOTE!

The whole keep politics out of the regular BARFs is so fricking difficult with all of the politics invading everyday life and dominating so much of our consciousness.

I do appreciate your efforts here is doing that to some degree.

Filled the GSA yesterday in Petaluma and used the Speedway app type in your phone number and it knocks 11¢ off the posted price. The pic shows the premium fill up.

At this point I’m convinced the real adventure isn’t the ride… it’s paying for fuel.

It’s very American to be convinced your taxes didn’t go where you wanted and to be unhappy about it. My CA tax rate was around 2% which is nothing, especially for living in a “pay to play” state.

So many of the roads around me have been repaved in the past 18mon. I have no idea what fund or bill or whatever paid for it. But I’m stoked it finally happened.

:thumbup

pretty sure the CHP helps enforce our rules for how much trucks can weigh on our roads, which of course impacts how quickly they wear out. riding I-5 for decades and watching how we repave that and then watch it wear out again emphasizes the wear and tear of truck traffic, imo. overloaded trucks just break our roads, so god bless the CHP in that regard. :angel

these daze, I've been inclined to use Hwy 99 as an alternative to I-5 because of all of the improvements they've recently made to Hwy 99 (fresh triple lanes all over the place, seems like). plus, from Hwy 99 I get to see all the progress we're making with HSR, ftw. :laughing

guys I know complain about the roads in CA. honestly have a hard time understanding what they're unhappy about. I don't ride our roads as much as I'd like to, but when I do, I'm always blown away by how wonderful they are. :dunno :ride

one nice thing about being a no-car/motorcycle-only family is I'm pretty price-insensitive to how much gas costs, and how much it is taxed.

generally in some of the relatively remote places I find myself needing to refuel, I'm just happy to find three or four gallons to put in the bike. 🥳

IF it is not a State HWY then local Government did it out of their Public Works Budget.

Some HWYs get a lot of love because of weather which is why the Sierra HWYs are usually in pretty good shape overall. At least the well travelled ones.

I bet the economy for gas taxes and road maintenance is super tough the manage. Autos have gotten heavier and more fuel efficient in recent years. That’s a double whammy - more wear and tear on roads and less taxes to pay for maintenance. Registration fees are higher for heavy vehicles like trucks. Maybe even sales tax helps pay a little, since everything is so fucking expensive. I wonder if it’s enough to offset the cost of repair. And the whole time people bitch about “high taxes” and too many potholes.

Lol

I live about a mile from i-80 and use it regularly just to get across town, or go down either side of the hill.
The winters absolutely destroy 80 over the summit in both directions and they have to repave it every single freaking year

It seems they try something new every couple of years

It has a concrete base in areas which is very tough, but trucks with chains will kill that in a winter, so they seem to put a disposable layer of asphalt over it which gets chunk to shit overwinter, torn off in the spring and relaid.
Last year they cut grooves in the concrete in certain stretches and put down what looked like some epoxy based hybrid material, that held up okay so far with minor tread grooving.

80 is always being repaved in summer up here
