Get Fit, Stay Fit, Feel Good - 2026

@two wheel tramp, just imagine if you could consume and efficiently utilize what a horse eats, assume proportionality of course, you could ride that Surly all day faster than a juiced up Lance Armstrong.
I already eat like a horse. I just lack the muscle to burn it all.

On that note, has anyone used mylar reflective film as a mirror in their home gyms?

Good workout today. PTish leg deal. Bike for a good sweat then a bunch of silly looking rehab stuff. No real weights so to speak. Crossover steps are coming along nicely.

Tomorrow is my 1 year PT check in.

I looked it up and the grain component of their diet is 5-10 lbs per day.

@Mike95060, Based on Robert’s post 30lbs of hay at 15% protein is about 4.5lbs of protein a day. That doesn’t account for the protein in the grain, which would depend on its composition. I know that for chickens it’s around 16% for chicken grain. So let’s assume another 1.6lbs of protein for a 10lb serving. So a little over 6 pounds of protein per day is about 1.3g protein per pound for a 2,000lb draft horse. My math sucks so please check my work 😁
And here I am trying to eat 1.5-2g of protein per kilogram of body weight. That’s 3.3-4.4g/lbs.

Do horses even care about their gains 😅

🤔 do race horses eat 3x as much protein?

Really good upper body workout this AM.
Still feeling the muscle fatigue.

Another fuck yeah moment bench pressing.
Reminds me of being a young man. Sort of. :laughing

DO NOT attempt to post your T-levels on BARF!!!!

i added a pinch of salt to two of my hamburger patties yesterday and took a magnesium glycinate supplement. no cramps last night, woohoo! going forward i plan to use 'lite salt' which has potassium and sodium. those three things should keep my electrolytes in balance. maybe even help with cravings!

next week i will reintroduce exercises i put on pause because of my shoulder subluxation a couple weeks back.

tomorrow and sunday i am riding the track at thunderhill west. two big calorie spend days where if i can keep my diet in check i can really make some progress on body recomp / fat loss.

Sooo, are you on an low sodium diet?

I gave up on worrying about salt a long time ago. It never seemed to hurt my blood pressure or any other blood markers. I think active, fit people need salt.

I haven’t added any sodium or salt to my diet for a year or two. When I eat carbs after two weeks of no carbs, my body flushes my electrolytes as it flushes the glycogen, then I cramp while my body slowly increases the reserves. By taking some electrolytes I am jump starting the process. Hopefully I don’t have to supplement with electrolytes forever

Good workouts this week.
PT check in was all positive! I have busted through the 1 year medicare barrier and will continue to go to these once a month. There is still some progress to be made and part of that is agility. To that goal I am starting a specialized training program with a Trainer today.

I have not worked with a trainer since I raced MX back in my early 20's.
This gent specializes in mature adults, surgical recovery sort of stuff and I have watched his stuff for several months with the intention of engaging when I got to a certain point.

Well I am here. I am now authorized to do light impact stuff as in light hopping and striding sort of agility stuff. The plan is to get to the gym at 2:10 today and ride the bike for 12 minute or so and hit him up. I have already given him my deets.

1 year out from FEMUR break (today actually!)
Titanium knee also right leg.
Major arthritis in left wrist and left shoulder.
Minor arthritis in both elbows.
Fused disc in lower back.
An extensive list of previously broken bits.

So I anticipate some quick discussion and then running some of the new agility stuff my PT gave me and likely some things he thinks would be good followed by a good assisted stretch. I really think the assist will help me progress there. As a martial artist as a teen / early 20's doing "force stretching" was a game changer in my flexibility.

I am and OG now so gentle assisted stretching should allow me to use my mind to relax and get a bit more of a good stretch and better range started.

The plan is doing this twice a week on days where I am doing upper body.

Hoping to show my regular PT person a range of motion improvement in a month.

Had a good workout this morning even though it was hard after two full days riding on track. Had a 50mph lowside on Saturday and smacked my hand pretty good. Was worried about a broken metacarpal but it's fine now, I just had to be very careful about staying light on the bars all day Sunday :laughing The barbell didn't really bother the hand so I'm chalking it up to a bruise and will add 5lbs to each side next Monday.

Just got back from Sweden Saturday and can't wait to hit the gym tonight. Weighed myself yesterday morning and am super happy I didn't gain any weight. Let me tell you people I work with like to drink. We had quite a few beers each evening and with having to go out and eat every meal I was scared I would balloon up but I did a tin of walking to see sites in Copenhagen and also they are fit as shit over there and there are almost as many people riding bikes as driving cars. I have never seen so many bikes in my life they are like fleas it was impressive.

Goin on roughly 3 weeks now of Boxing 3 nights a week, lifting two nights, one 3hr hike at a quick pace and 2500ish elevation gain.

In the beginning my knees hurt every single day, they still do but a little less now. Diet hasn’t been the greatest but I’m getting enough protein. I haven’t lost weight but my torso and belly measurements are going down, so it could be fat loss and muscle gain plus what ever other liquid retention is going on is breaking even 🫡

Had a really good upper body workout yesterday. I spent a solid hour last night trying to stretch out that arthritic shoulder. Hurt like hell. The price to be paid unfortunately.

The no pain no gain thing has changed for this :afm199
More like a lot of pain for a little gain, but don't quit. Never quit.

Did upper body last night as well. shoulders were complaining so went just a little lighter on those but threw in some extra chest work and hit the biceps and triceps hard with some different excercises. Tonight is leg day which aught to be fun.

Wait, real food and walking keep people from gaining weight???!!!

Especially walking about 15-30 minutes after a meal for 15 minutes or so. This one is huge for fat reduction.

Picked up some Blaze Pods a few months ago and have been enjoying them a ton. More so; in social groups they're addictive. Probably something all bars should have...a Blaze pod wall or table. Exercises are endless, if you want to use them that way. I'm not using them as much for heart rate, and more so for reaction timing/ training. The fav of my workouts has become BP's...but I made my wall too far apart....

I often do this to get blood moving after eating. I did a three miler after dinner yesterday. My foot hurt like a mother-clucker for the first 15 minutes of my day and now it just hurts like a mother after moving around.

Pulling glucose from the blood tames insulin spikes, hence the link to "fat reduction"...all things being equal (diet is solid, exercise regularly, etc.). Reducing blood sugar is the link to "fat reduction", to be clear. Probably better to say: fat resistance.

I have noted my left elbow forearm feeling arthritic and also like a tendon strain and actually had to back off the curls yesterday.

I noticed it was very sore to the touch a while ago and slapped some Voltarian stuff I use for my shoulder. Good.

Just proves to me the stuff works just not for major arthritis because it barely touches my shoulder pain.

Try to keep it for work out and rides only so not to use that shit every day. The balance of it helps and it is not good for you.
