Hauling empty containers

Odd question but perhaps BARF LEOs can answer.

We've configured our 22' trailer to haul empty, out of spec, 20' and smaller containers up to our property. Not for hire, but are we required to stop at weigh stations?

If you have a GVWR of over 10k lbs, you have to stop.

Slightly off topic but the trailer reference prompts me say I haven't forgotten about that trailer brake module, G. I'm still looking in to best options. I'll reach out to you soon, probly Friday.

My truck is 8500 pounds, if I haul a 15 foot trailer with some bikes I'm over the 10k limit... I have never stopped before

Thanks Nick. I had tried that website; however, this clause confuses the heck out of me:

CARGO VAN -- It depends on the load and the use. Technically, they are a motor truck according to CVC Section 410 and, therefore, required to stop at the weigh stations.

Discussion: Yes, technically a cargo van is a motor truck according to CVC Section 410 and, therefore, required to stop at the scales.

I've also tried for several days to call the CHP weigh station and the phone is eternally busy.
