Has anyone been there recently? I searched and found some threads from years ago. Im a beginner dirt rider, and it seems like this place isnt as technical as a lot of the other places. Id like to go check it out, and if it really is pretty easy going, ill drag my two little ones there. It will be there first time out riding in the wild. I see there is also a knoxville fire lookout, is that accessable via their trail system or is it hike in only? Google maps makes it look like the trail stops short of the look out tower

I haven't been in a long while, but as I recall the two track is generally very easy and the single track is rocky. Have you considered Prairie City? It's very beginner friendly.

I havent. I just stumbled across knoxville as I was planning a sunday ride for next week at berryessa. I just noticed the ohv area and decided to do some digging. Ill check out prairie city too.

Argyll used to have a kid friendly peewee mx track and there was rarely anyone else on it. It's very small, but it's nice because you could typically park right next to it and have the whole thing to yourself. Great spot for dipping your toes and you can walk on the track with your kids helping them out and whatnot. It's so close to you, maybe keep it in your back pocket for those quick trips for the kids.

Your truck might get broken into from tweekers . Trails have to loop ride up and come down

I've ridden out there a bunch, once you get off the main fire road its generally 4x4 trails and rocky, unmarked/mostly undocumented ST that I wouldn't recommend riding alone (a buddy got himself down a trail and found out it was a dead end and was having trouble climbing back up, thankfully there were two of us there to help get his bike up and out)
If its a hot day, it will be hotter there as there are no trees.
For sure worth checking out if you are in the area, just set your expectations low and you won't be disappointed.
Have fun and take pics for us keyboard warriors :D

I ride out there a lot (I live close). The dirt roads are easy riding but the trails can be challenging for inexperienced riders. They haven't been maintained in years, so lots of rocks and ruts. Most trails dead end eventually, so be sure you can go back up whatever you go down. Not many people out there (that's why I like it) and I've never had my truck broken into (been riding there for at least 12 yrs.). Other reason I ride there...it's ALWAYS open! Here's a few pics
