I was riding both days and Saturday was a disaster from an event perspective. I understand that this is a business and you try not to push customers away, but there comes a point where you reach an exponential decrease in riding quality after a certain number of passes are sold (and an increase in danger / crashing).
This was, by far, the most dangerous track day I've ever attended. I don't think anyone could even count the amount of flags we had that day. I spoke with one of the Thunderhill staff members and they said there were 178 riders on Saturday! I remember one of the sessions had 4 laps where every corner station had yellow flags waving due to so many crashes simultaneously. Also, how was it allowed that we had people parking up for the day in the hot pit next to the bike release tent? People had to park in front of garages, in front of the entry / exit road to the West side, and next to the ambulances.
I see this as a failure in 2 areas. First, FTD has enough experience to know when an event is oversold. They should have capped the number of passes for the day. Second, Thunderhill should enforce rider limits after a certain point. They are generally extremely lenient with the number of riders on track, but there comes a point where you need to put your foot down.
Sunday was a great time though! I really enjoyed it and we had about half as many people. Glad to see you all made it home in 1 piece!
