Yeah I figured the thread bump wasn’t actually for the McRib. Believe me, I’d know long before most people if that magical sammich was coming out of hiding.

But a fried apple pie? I will say, how is that “back” from anything? Is that how they did them in prehistoric times? I worked there 34 years ago, and for several years before that, I absolutely know that the apple pie was baked not fried. Always was one of those things that if they didn’t have any ready in that little hot cabinet on the counter, then it was quite a long wait to make more.

Speaking of their apple pie, there’s been an urban legend that the apple chunks in them were really potato (since they were cheaper than apple) that the mad scientists at McDonald used food additives to make them taste like apple.

I guess in my head I imagined fried as like... they make the thing and then fry it like at the fair.

it's a normal apple pie that spends a minute in the fryer.

What on earth would possess you to make such a request? That would be like going to a vegan joint and asking if you could get a porterhouse :loco

I worked at a MickeyD's back in 1969/1970 and we, indeed, plopped the (frozen) pies into a fryer vat to get them to their "edible" state...what they did with them before they arrived in our freezer is anybody's guess.

Oh, you poor soul. You missed out on one of the finer corporate industrial food delicacies of the ages.

While I acknowledge that they are, indeed, baked today, they have never held a candle to when they were fried.

When they were fried, they had a yummy, crunchy, yet tender crust. They had these little bubbles of seared pie dough on the outside. It was like eating apple flavored bubble wrap (and who doesn't like popping bubble wrap).

We lost the fried pie in part to the Great Fat Scare of national Food policy (file under "Why we can have nice things").

As I understand it, there is still a McDs in Downey that sells the pies year around.

If I remember, and I will strive to, I will try to get one of these crunchy delights on the 23rd. I will not get my hopes up. I doubt they will be the same. But, I can at least savor once again the fond memories of when the McDs apple pies were actually good.

Fried or baked, you can still weld with a Mick D apple pie.

I can't tell you how many times I have fucked with an order in my misspent youth because someone was a douche.
Don't ask me about what my high school buddy did at the KFC when a lady came in 5 minutes to close and ordered the two piece meal. Very demented.

Wait!!! You don't know, or remember, that Mcd's apple pies uses to be fried? They were so much better back then. They changed to baked Probably right around 1990 in an effort to make them "healthier". The fried ones were bomb!

If you ever go to a Jollibee, they have fried pies like the old McDonald's ones. They are a bit smaller, but they so have mango flavor, which is pretty good.

I know I'm dating myself when I tell a story about McDonald's that makes the fried apple pie AND a working ice cream machine seem common but if I only had two dollars......

I would get the Apple Pie A-La-Mode!!!

They would break the pie in half serve it on the pancake breakfast plate with a swirl of soft serve.
