Mount Patterson Hot Spring Campaign ...

20140829-090028.jpg

... and I continued to bond with the new bike by throwing
it down the trail ... :laughing This one hurt a bit ...
I was trying to scoot down along on the smooth edge of the road
on the left side of the pic by giving it throttle ... call this a crash,
rather than my usual KLR tip-over ... Broke the rear brake pedal, ouch! :nchantr

Got the bike picked up. The silver lining to how steep the decent to
the river is here is that I didn't have to unload the bike to get it upright.
The black cloud was that I wasn't sure I'd be able to ride back up, ha. :rolleyes
There have been some gully washers out there this summer and
Trail 765K was in rough shape ...

Yes, yes it was rough. Just past the hard parts...

We had doubts about riding back up as well... Even more impressive this guy made it down:

Ha!
My bike thought the very same spot was perfect for a nap too!
That was a tough section fo' sho'.

We got by, with a little help from our friends...

Thanks for the inspiration!

Wow, looks like an amazing ride...the KLR looks much better on the hills with you, than collecting dust in my garage, I'm really glad you are having some fun with it.

Hey Lee,

Just got back from three nights up by Mono Lake, really enjoying
your KLR ... it's getting around 50mpg and with that big tank I've
ridden it 325 miles before hitting reserve ... plus I've been
throwing it down the trail and the tank has, so far, protected
the vulnerable radiator and fan! :thumbup

Hope your recovery is going well ... don't know if you've been reading
the silly Racer V thread here on BARF (new rider goes racing on an R1, safety nazis dog-pile), but the way I got hooked up with your low-miles KLR
represents the best of BARF ... posting on Adventure Riding about riding up at Lake Pillsbury, spotting each other riding in opposite directions, grabbing a drink at Soda Creek, and a couple of weeks later I'm at your home meeting your beautiful family writing you a check and leaving the bike with you 'till
the check clears ... and then riding it up Mt Patterson, something I've wanted to do for years ... How's that for a cool BARF story, bro! :laughing

Anyway, keep us posted about how you're doing ... with your positive attitude I'm sure you'll be back on the GSA as soon as possible ... :party

see you around the campfire,

Hey Dmitriy and NowDatsLivin,

Super cool pics, thanks for posting! Did you guys ride down there
during the Hawthorne Rally? :thumbup

So funny to see that exact section of the trail again ... :laughing
I think the 4x4 guys just polish the steep sides ... down I went, bang,
just like glass with my 606s ... impressed to see Dmitriy's bike down
there with 50/50 tires ... :thumbup That jeep with the trailer was
pretty cool, too ...

Glad if my pics inspired you guys in some small way ... can't say how
many cool places I've found over the years because of forums like this ... :ride

Mechete and I want to do this loop from SF and back... Curious what the total mileage was? Want to get out there soon!

Hey DB4m,

I'm thinking it's around 300 miles from lower Haight ... about six hours? That's directly to the spring, if you want to do Mt. Patterson on the way, which you totally should, it's still probably around 300 miles ... going back Monitor Pass and Hell's Half-Acre was around 600 miles ... :ride

What is the most direct route from the bay area to Trail 765K?

Hi Lighterknot,

I-580 to Hwy 120 to Hwy 108 to Hwy 395 south to Bridgeport to Hwy 182/338 north to right on Lucky Boy Pass (NF-028) to the first left after the watercrossing onto State Route 3C, up about five miles to a little pass, where you make a left on FR-765 ... 765K is the first right down 2-3 miles from 3C, after the right look for the second carsonite marker, the first one is for a little road off to the right, which threw me off for a few years, ha.

soooo much cool dual-sport riding out there ...

I will most definitely be checking out 765K in the relatively near future. Up for another round out there, John? It would be fun to have you along. :thumbup

So it's in Nevada? Lol, no wonder I was confused!

Somewhere in here?

Thanks John, yea we went there during the Hawthorne Rally. We didn't make it last year so after seeing your posts this year I really wanted to make sure we got there! I have some video to edit that I'll post up.
