My OG mend has started.

Day 49 ✅

Small strides continue to be seen. Just finished PT2 for the day.

Every step with a cane hurts but if I go very slow and totally focus on the mechanics involved I can eliminate it generally. Unfortunately that has me moving so slow it is not practical.

I am doing some of that with each PT session to reinforce it an hopefully expand that to a more normal stride.

I remember saying the Doc thought I could ride in December. I am calling **cough** bullshit **cough** but maybe I will get to a point where things start to progress faster.

Mrs said it was a junk food night. She has been cooking her ass off and everything has been healthy and good.

I said I would eat pizza but I don’t want typical “junk food”.

Sleep has been a little off as I find myself taking a nap after PT in early afternoon and I have woken in the middle of the night a few times.

Hey PT at 3am burns a little time.
Edit: Nobody on Barf to talk too. I do remember when there was always someone online.

Keeping on.

Pick a date and make plans to go back to Stanford Medicine, bring food for the nurses that put up with you and BARF challenge coins, stickers for their kids, whatever, etc. They'll tell ya if you're progressing appropriately or not, between bites... Be cool having it to look forward to~!

Glad you’re pushing through B-Man. I know it hurts and age is an enemy of healing.
You got this!

Recovering sucks! It feels so slow and then bang, all the sudden you feel a little more like your old self. take a minute and smile.

When's your get out into the world date? Recovery sounds rough, but it'll all be in the rear mirror eventually. I'm sure time is moving slower right now

I should know more next week.

I have a PT review next week.
Nurse already cleared me to drink Tequila.. I mean return to reality.

I keep pushing the Mrs to take me to the office….
Get me the fuck out and about. She is much more conservative about my capabilities.

I am thinking two weeks I should be rolling.
Car has a dead battery which makes it hard to go “test” my ability to enter and exit the car.

I feel some tension coming. I think she likes having control. Sadly for her it is temporary :laughing

Time is very relative and super real. It makes me realize my time on this planet is short and I am losing good life days to this.

The days have gone faster than anticipated when I got home. Surprise there.

Speaking of time…. Time for lunch and PT 2.

I don’t normally go 7 weeks without driving my cars. This is an anomaly for sure. AAA for the win next week I am guessing.

AAA is great...I've been a member for decades.
But if you just need a jump, they'll still try to sell you one of their shit batteries.

I have found the drivers to be very open about battery shelf life. I did buy one a few years ago.

As I get older, every year becomes more precious as you notice your health gradually declines. Your ability to do the things you love will wane as well. Really brought this into focus when I retired. Realized how great not working was and wished I had retired earlier...wasted "good life days" by working too long.

I broke my leg with a motorcycle in my 50's...takes a bit longer than you think to get back to "normal" (no limping)...getting back on the bike was more a mental thing than physical thing for me...didnt want to fall off and fuck up the hardware in my leg. That first ride after the break was a milestone moment for me, and a huge relief!

Walk as much as you can (ouch)...makes recovery so much faster in the end.

Re acquiring your independence,
Once this gets started, the weeks left of rehab, will melt away.
I got a load, of guilt, looking for my independence.

My GF at the time, had broken her foot, from the clutch pedal/wreck, a year before.
See needed way more rehab for all those small bones, to heal, and carried that into my rehab.
Working on my hand clutch, got my truck usable for me, but that suitcase of guilt, steppin' away from all the fussy mothering, with gratitude, letting go, isn't easy, , ,

I don’t think I am, but this does have me feeling my age. I may have felt old here and there once in a while but mostly not. Being 67 is real now. Lots of time go dwell on it.

Done this before. My resolve to bounce back as an OG is still there. I think I got some Mick Doohan in me.
