My OG mend has started.

I am not feeling sore at all really. The leg feels a bit limpy, but I dashed up the stairs with no cane this AM.

Shoulders a little tired maybe.. :dunno Headed to the gym to do upper body a little later. We will see if I am a little taxed or not, but right now I am pleasantly surprised.

Yaaaaay!

Gym went well. Honestly there were about 3 times where I said to myself "You have done a good job and after yesterdays effort you have done enough". Each time I convinced myself I am good and carried on. I finished the day smiling because the only downside was the leg muscle that lift the leg over the bike being tired (part of my PT stuff is knee raises) and when I did the Roman whatever's I got a weird cramp in my lats.. but just a bit.

I have decided to ride next weekend. Probably just chill on Saturday.. or keep the ride short but honestly when I set the rally schedule I thought by May 29th I would be totally good enough to ride.

It is not totally but I am ready. The Hoho Rally will be a bigger challenge I believe. 300 plus miles.. not that far out.

Ya know for an old guy I think I have done a pretty damn good job coming back. :teeth

Such a positive report. It would be fun to look back at some of your early posts where recovery seemed so distant. Now you're reaching the top of the mountain.

I think that you might be under-selling your recovery efforts.
We would all be so lucky to have made as much progress as you have made.
You make a pretty good role model.
Keep On Truckin!

And perhaps you might take a small amount of solace in the fact that you don’t have severely deformed hands as many arthritis sufferers do. I have a relative with severe arthritis who can barely hold a fork or spoon, can’t type and whose major accomplishment was using a walker to take one lap around his home.

8 months today.

I still remember rolling into the V (first post in thread). I remember PT just being standing and huge challenge of getting out of bed.

Wow.

Tomorrow I head out on ride to a BARF rally. Not 100% recovered but 100% grateful to be on my way.

So how are you after the rally?
Physically?
Mentally?

Looks like you had a blast judging by the pictures.

Thanks for asking.

I am good.

Saturday was a bit rough from need to walk a decent way in gear. Specific broken spot got sensitive.

I decided to pass on riding to rest up. Glad I did.
1/2 way thru the day I decided to do a PT session to see how I felt and that was a good assessment. Not terrible but sensitive.

Got a car ride to dinner (thanks @Elfin) and Sunday felt all good to ride home.

Monday was way different than Saturday. Did not feel weak. Had some urgent biz crap so skipped the gym which ultimately was fine. A day of rest was good but I did do light PT when I got home. The Mrs and The Mook participated.

Today I feel very good. Did my upper body gym shit and tomorrow I do a the lower body routine.

Thursday I see the Physical Therapist and we will see if it has any impact on the range of motion stuff.

Totally torn on riding to Weaverville. That will be twice as far and at least 3 solid days of riding. Weather may dictate stuff as well. = nervous : undecided.

What is the weight of the DuCat?

Sounds good. Glad you didn’t push yourself too hard. A month ago this may not have been possible so you’re kinda just out of the woods.
I’d say it was super important mentally and emotionally to take on this challenge and see it through.
It proves how good you are at this point and highlights any lingering limitations.
Sorta like a test of mind and body to see whatcha got.

Having loaded many a GS it can be a tricky deal. I love my Versahauler, even though I have a truck I carry bikes on the hauler. The NC was pushing 500 plus pounds, main reason I sold it. Bu I was able to load that heifer alone.
Also, if you don’t have one get a boot jack which simplifies removing your boots. Boot hooks for getting them on.
So much unsolicited advice but you gotta love barf.

550 wet. Too heavy. Fucking heavy. :(
Mine weighs the same, maybe a bit more.
If it tips a few degrees too far I'm cooked. I always have to be careful rolling it out or stopping at a light.
But that extra weight makes for a smoother ride so it's a tradeoff.

Boot jack?
Sit in chair, clap hands, extend foot, beautiful blonde appears, kneels, removes boot, extend other foot, repeat, appreciative tap on head.
If I ride from here to LA and back for my brother's birthday this Friday, the above will be more greatly tested than any other ride.
Maybe I should take the Santa Fe instead of Harley? Probably same MPG! ;)
(Still looking at NC-700/750x for C2C.)
