My speedomiter is off

I wound up riding by a few of those radar trailers in every gear and figured out what my speed was based upon RPMs. That came in handy when my speedo broke.

Has anyone opened up their speedometer and 'fixed' the needle? I did it once in a truck and it came out OK.

doesnt the tire's air pressure also has a factor in this?

The cheapest way to get this "fixed" would be to install a bicycle computer. A cheap one can be bought for $20. Superglue the magnet onto a spoke of your front rim, then zip tie the sensor onto one of the forks. Mount the display to your handlebar, and pay attention to the bicycle computer instead of your speedometer. If you input the right tire circumference into the computer, they are extremely accurate.

+1

I use a Vetta on one of my bikes. Wanted to go "minimalist". Battery gets replaced 1x/yr and it never screwed up by rain or washing. Has two trip odometers, time to sevice, clock, top speed, avg speed, speedo goes up to 150mph and odometer to 100K mi. Thing has lasted 6 yrs now and still going strong.

fwiw, I put the pick up on the swing arm and the magnet on the rear spocket. I suggest not using super glue because over time the water will cause it to let loose. I used JB bond the second time w/o a problem.

Only down side is that it does not have a light.

edit: simple to install. Friend rode out from Minnisota and met up in Montana. Gear drive on speedo went out on her bike. Rode to bicycle shop and installed speedo in motel 6 pking lot. $25.
