Time for my semi-annual rant about daylight saving time. I think it's stupid and we would all be better off with normal time all year. That's my opinion, at least.

I have a bunch of things that know what time it is and change automatically, but so far I've had to reset the time on nine different devices that don't know how to do it themselves. This includes all three cars and one motorcycle - fortunately the XR650L is too primitive to have a clock. And I'm not even sure that I got everything. Every one of them is digital, I don't have to wind the hands back like my wife will have to do with one or more of her watches.

:rant :blah :loco :laughing

I agree with you. 100%

I only reset one clock. The rest will come back into form in 6 months or so and it is not hard to remember they are a hour off.

Our relatives in the Philippines have asked us why we do this in the US and we couldn’t come up with a good reason.

HI and AZ don’t observe Daylight Saving Time and they seem to get along just fine.

After talking about it for years BC moved to permanent daylight saving time this year. They were waiting for California, Oregon, & Washington to commit first but didn't seem like that was ever going to happen.

The big problem they want to stray from conventional time.
Day light savings, gives us more heat/sun access, marketing outdoor events, but screws up time as used by the railroads.
Mixing Savings and straight time, could be deadly.
What "they" want is daylight savings all year in their state,
I've only gone to see a movie one hour earlier, once.
Movie in Laughlin, I was in Bullhead, in winter.

I just read that the Navajo Nation in AZ DOES observe Daylight Saving Time even though the rest of AZ does NOT.

Reason being that their Nation spans AZ, UT and NM and they want to maintain the same time standard throughout.

I'm for permanently keeping the extra hour of daylight in the afternoon.
Yes Thank You GIFs | Tenor

I have a TIMEX desk clock that does it automatically...

Thank Jehovah for the one less thing I have to do.

:teeth

People get easily confused and think that Daylight Saving Time is why they have more sunlight in the summer. Thus why some places (CA among them) have directionally set procedures in motion to adopt that all year instead of Standard Time. Which is still OK I guess even if midnight and noon make less sense there.

Railroads? They invented time zones and surely know how to use them. Indiana used to be a patchwork of 'saving' and 'not saving'. And as noted above, the Navajo use DST throughout their reservation... but the Hopi do not. And the two reservations have complicated boundaries.
