...and how to park your Harley when the Jiffy stand just sinks in the sand and
ya don't have an empty beer can to put under "it"! GF was driving my '72, about 5 miles
of dirt road west out of Lotus to camp site along the So. Fork of the American river.

When ya could still ride in the back, beer stop at the Lotus Store on the way to the Chili Bar drop in spot on 193 above Placerville.
Crazy good times! :ride . :staRang . :laughing

This was about '75, and back story... a good friend was in the AF National Guard stationed in Fresno (didn't want to go to Nam). He said there was a MC Run
at the Clovis - Fresno county fair grounds , mostly bikes from LA SoCal area attend. Being broke ass bikers we didn't have $$ for a motel so he said he found
a place out in the country we could crash. Ha, ha, it was kinda sort of out in the country in a grove of eucalyptus trees but just across a big canal there was a new housing development. We didn't get to the "spot" until pretty late that evening 'cause we were partaking in the festivities in town and it wasn't until the next morning we saw where we were at! There were 6 of us on this run and a backup van. Yes, the van was utilized but not because of a mechanical breakdown. Ha, but that's another story!

Yes, there was a Shovel involved :)... This one was a "Special Construction" bike. Motor was out of '68 CHP, bike bought at auction, that was massaged a bit.
Bored out to 80", new rods, pistons for 10.1 c/r, and flywheels lightened a bit and everything balanced. Spark was from a Joe Hunt mag. Heads cleaned up and tweaked with 2.05" intakes and 1.75" ext. valves w/Andrews heavy duty springs and a B2 solid lifter cam running Sifton lifters and pushrods. Carb was and S&S 1-7/8" and running staggered dual pipes. Frame was a 1957 hardtail. Tranny sprocket went from 22 to 24tooth for better freeway flying. Arlen Ness tank, only 6 made in with the three top panel sections coffin tank. Grider 6" over with 21" x 3" front rim laced to a '70 Sportster drum brake.

Dang... need to start going through all my boxes of slides!

Took the 890 up to see if the hard split off the NorCal BDR up Verdi Peak was passable.
Yup, just!
Still some snow but some rig was kind enough to cut tracks.
Tough super sharp rocky road for the big bike (rocky sections not shown in pix, I don't stop in those places, just keep the flow going),
the 500 would have been gravy up there though.PXL_20260510_213606690.jpg
