Just got off the phone with a great friend I love dearly. She wanted to say happy belated birthday. She was busy, work trip, and I'm not so egotistical to think I'm the center or the universe so it just put the biggest smile on my face to talk with her.
I was one of the first people Victoria told anyone she is gay. She was young and I understand coming out can be extremely difficult for people.. My response was like okay... I don't give a fuck. I didn't mean it be so dismissive and I can be crass sometimes (y'all know me) but I love my friends and I always to do my best to be nice to people. My thought was that she is my friend and telling me that she's gay does not change our friendship and we had a long talk after that. But I'm not stupid to be surprised I was someone she trusted and sitting and talking was what she needed. Part of that was comparing pretty movie stars where we could agree, that actress? 10 times out of 10, I'm getting in there if I had the chance.
Back in college, early in our friendship, I knew her walking path to her class because she walked right by me. I used to sit on a BIG rock on campus reading a book between my classes and when I saw her, I put my bookmark in and put the book down. "So were are ya going? Better be to class."
And I'll always remember she was one of two friends from college that came to my father's funeral. She never met my dad but she just wanted to be there for me.
