I'll have a look at the jerbs, kinda giving up on the moto shop job idea though, I'm a bit too old to train and I think you gotta be young and livin' cheap to afford the time it takes to get established. Maybe in a cheaper market.
 
Applied for a few things that seemed somewhat adjacent to skills I sort of have. Worth a shot. Now for more coffee and then back to wrenching on the KTM. I even got to cleaning things on it yesterday so I guess I'm kinda excited about it.
 
@N4teTheGreat, you have tremendous admin and customer service skills. There has to be the right jerb out there that does not feel like prison. I could see you rocking body shop estimator-service advisor etc. I will say that service advisor SUCKS on an automotive level but heavy equipment tends to be a 9-5er with weekends off.
 
There are definitely plenty of jerbs I would be good at, but most of those aren't gonna be something I can afford to do customer service / support doesn't pay much of anything. Bike shop job is just fine, and I'm reasonably good at it, but I can't afford to do it forever.

Service advisor sucks out loud!! (and not in a good way.)
It's an especially poor fit if it's for a dealership (or an indy shop working the "dealership model") and you happen to have a moral compass or any shred of a soul (don't ask me how I know.) :x
 
I wish I had stayed on with Hyster instead of being sucked over to Mercedes Benz. I did make bank but the hours are loooooooong and it's a brutal job. I have a buddy over at Peterbuilt and he does well, has a cush office with a door that closes and mechanics/ techs that just pump out the work.
 
I still have a bit of soul, and that damn moral compass is probably keeping me from being a billionaire (or so I hear)
 
Also parts dudes are sorta the base players of dealership positions. If you can get on with a commision structure it can pay very well. A good parts guy is worth a lot. Key phrase, know your together with parts and you will have new best friends.
 
It paid great. And I was able to pay the bills after I hurt my back and wasn't able to climb ladders (electrician) or lean over hoods (mechanic)... but ewwwww! :green

I don't "mislead" people... regardless of compensation. :x

Might be hard to get a job prior to relocating, but relocating without a job seems kinda risky. Don't love heat but I can deal with it, don't mind snow, I know how to drive in it. You would be a welcome addition to the Reno motorcycle culture or at least help me find it.
I live in Cold Springs and about an hour from where 49 gets good. I can see California from my front porch and smile at the 10-12% I save! Registration on my 26 year old pickup was 40% cheaper when I moved east. OBD smog is maybe $40. The old pickup with liability and a quality 2018 suv with full coverage are $1800 a year. The 2 wheel fleet might be $600 with the ‘25 Tiger. Washoe County has Nevada’s highest gasoline tax but still cheaper than most of California.
Nate you are welcome to visit for a few days to see what you can. I can provide references.
