Splitting in a closed lane

The Golden Gate Bridge closes down to one lane for construction on weeknights; however, the cones are in the middle of the second lane, leaving plenty of room for a motorcycle. I believe there is a LANE CLOSED sign on the construction side of the cones.

I presume that if there's only one lane open to cars, I'm expected to ride within it too, but I'm curious your perspectives: if there's enough space for a motorcycle to laneshare with the cones, is that permissible?
 
Lane splitting is done between two rows of vehicles, so when there is only one lane you’re not lane splitting. So now if your “lane sharing” and staying within the open lane of travel many officers wouldn’t have a problem. If you go into that closed lane, passing over dotted lines, you then have a problem. You pass through the cones to avoid a larger truck, you have a problem. It will also be officer discretion as to if they would cite for unsafe speed or other codes based on traffic conditions, construction, closed lanes etc.
 
I'm sure many officers wouldn't care. I wouldn’t. But if an officer wanted to stop you, I'm sure they could find a reason. If the cones are in the middle of the lane, with a lane closed sign, that would be reason enough. It could be interpreted as both lanes being closed, though one could always try to fight a ticket in traffic court with the argument of being on the traffic side of the cones (spirit of the law). That's assuming that was the violation, and not something else, like speeding etc.

Thanks - that's about what I expected, but it's nice to have a venue to indulge my curiosities. :)

The night that made me wonder, there was bumper-to-bumper traffic for the length of the bridge. Was wondering for filtering, not for speeding.

Exactly, the only time I entertain those moves myself, when traffic refuses to move along because someone is out viewing the scenery and strangling the flow.
