The new Tesla Model 3 was whipped out yesterday...beautiful car, $35,000 ($25,000 after incentives), 215-mile range and Tesla already has 135,000 $1000 deposits. Crazy.

It won't be out in significant numbers for a couple of years, but I'm looking at this car and wondering why anybody would want to spend money on a gas-engine car when they could have this for the same price or less.
 
After buying my Volt, I am pretty sure my next commuter car will be 100% electric.

Judging from photos alone, I'd get the Chevy Bolt instead of the Tesla Model 3.
 
At that price it seems legit.

I was never a huge proponent of electric cars, but at this price it would be stupid not to jump on the bandwagon.

I'll wait until Tesla starts delivering them. Lots of things can change between now and the delivery date.

Were you one of those guys who, 5 years ago, said there'd never be an affordable electric card with decent range and recharge time in your lifetime?
 
We've decided this last car we've purchased is likely our last new car with a combustion engine (not counting a pick up truck we may eventually get).
 
Range is still a problem.

Yeah, heard rumors of a few stores around the country hitting lines of 1,000 people. Delivery priority when the car is released goes to first-day in-store reservations, over online orders, so there was incentive for people to get in line.

Another Barfer ordered his yesterday, I'll let him chime in if he wants.

If it's anything like the X delivery priority will be based on OTD$ with the most expensive ones rolling off the line first.
 
I ordered one and am waiting to test ride Bolt as well. If I like Bolt enough to lease it I can ask for a refund OR just stay on the list cuz by the time Bolt lease is about to be over it will be Model 3 delivery time.

Depending on how one drives/ weather, etc...fully gonna be a problem. The larger problem will be the pull on the electricity grid mid day. EV's are going to drive CA energy rates higher. Yay.

Like an airplane spec sheet, that's an ideal/ best case situation. I'd expect about 150-180 miles/ day. That's not bad, but a few around town trips in the middle of the day and the asshole puckering starts to happen.

I think there's gonna be a good business in towing huge Military grade generators around with superchargers on them and charging people's Teslas in the middle of the day!

True. Tesla should have taken those deposits in Nevada and not California.
