I also learned, through my years of working, that job security is mostly a fantasy. That’s why I worked exclusively for startups during my last 35 years of work.
 
I'm thinking of my years in the army. Specifically one song. We used to sing it while we were marching, in basic training, to the shooting ranges at Fort Ord.

i dunno. me and him have always gone for big multinational corps. i got a mega pension, he got a boatload of stock. when he finally had enough of the mind numbing intensity and told ‘em he was out (retiring early), they offered him 2 years of pay to stay 4 more months. critical project. he thought about it for a microsecond and then said no (he figured the carrot dangling would just keep carrying on, and he was ‘put a fork in it’ done). that’s what you get when a whole lotta years of a very lucrative retention policy backfires lol.
