What is bullying? Are you a bully?

A bully gets enjoyment out of victimizing others. It fills in a place missing in them (real courage), they are all cowards at heart trying to prove to themselves that they aren't.

I'm not so sure it's about enjoyment, but rather a control mechanism. Most bullying I've dealt with had to do with lack of confidence manifested as (public) control measures by ostracization, teasing, and physical intimidation.

all of the armchair psychoanalysis around bullying aside - what about the targets? ever think about what attracts a bully? or what keeps them coming back for more? fold? or fight back? most bullies i’ve ever run into have glass jaws. punched my biggest one in the face. fifth grade (and yeah, it was a sucker punch). he never fucked with me again. life lesson learned on my part. hopefully on his too.

They see the world as a zero-sum game. Where in order for them to win/succeed, someone else must lose/be denigrated.

They seek out weaknesses in others and exploit that weakness because they equivocate beating someone down with elevating themselves.

Nothing in my life has to actually get better; as long as I make things worse for everyone else, then relative to them, my position has improved.
So instead of working to elevate everyone, they focus on harming others. And see the outcomes as equivalent.

Oh I remember when Bobby Gregory and me got into it in high school. Typical douchebag football player bully. We had spanish class together and he would make fun of everyone. I told him to shut his piehole and we decided to work it out after class. I was a very skinny little stone dude. He pushed me and I swung hard. Sent his lip through his braces. I still have a scar on my hand that looks exactly like that square part on braces.

That cocksucker never bothered me again and I gained some respect from my peers that day.

What if I choose to bully a bully ?

Am I still a bully ?

Bullies are cowards, they don't like their victims to hit back, that's not supposed to be how it works for them.

Best way to stop a bully is to hit back.

Unpopular opinion I'm sure, but I think fights between guys should be socially conditioned such that forcible rape is how a victory is declared. That way it's a big gamble and fighting wouldn't be worth it for the vast majority.

Mr Colt would disagree with that :x

You'd get along fine with my old mentor, Art.

Art claimed to have come up with the perfect way to choose management.

You draw a big circle on the floor, you put a hammer in the middle. Everybody who wants to be a manager lines up on the outside of the circle. When a bell is rung, everyone goes for the hammer, the person who makes it out of the circle with the hammer is the new manager. Simple.
