it will connect when wired to the modem though ...
Ideas ???

It doesn't sound like you're actually connecting to the wireless modem/router.. or DHCP is turned off on the wireless for some reason..

We'll need to know more about your set up to track down the issue. Keep in mind, if you have the option of just running a wire to the system, it's almost always better to do so).

Are there any other devices using the wireless connection? (list the number and type)

On the PC that isn't connecting, click on Start > Run > type CMD > hit Enter.
At the command prompt, type IPCONFIG /ALL. Printscreen and post it up.

When directly connected to the modem/router, access the config page (you should have directions from the manufacturer, if not, the admin IP address is usually printed on a label on the modem/router). Click through to wireless settings, take a screenshot and post it.

On the PC, click on the wireless connection management icon in the task bar. If your system is using anything other than the windows manager you may want to switch back, the Intel wireless managers that I've worked with don't seem as stable, and tend to take over. Find your wireless network on the list, click through to the connection properties you have configured, take some screen shots, post them up.

Okay here it is . I have another XP machine running wireless and a host of other lap tops , phones and toys that connect to my modem/router , tried to adjust modem/router settings but it will not let me edit .
I also tried Start>run>Iprelease/all and renew .
Will post

Start>Run>CMD>IPconfig/ALL

I see 1 issue. But I'm unsure if it is your root problem.

I see an IP Tunneling setup. This is for IPv6. I've never once been able to get IPv6 to work on my network. Running NAT10 or not.

Wireless Network adapter is not connected.

Disconnect from the network and try to connect again, being very careful with the keys.

If that doesn't work, remove the device from device manager and reinstall it and check for newer drivers from the vendor.

if any one has any ideas let me know .

may be i shoulda bought a mac instead :|

If your IPconfig is showing the wireless network connection as "Media Disconnected" you aren't going anywhere. That is the equivalent of having the network cable unplugged on a wired connection.

Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

It needs to look like this:

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : somethingcool.com
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.108
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

You got an address on the wireless network connection?

Post up the ipconfig for it. Does it start with 169?

First- have you used this wireless adapter before- can you try it in an another computer?

Does your wireless router have MAC filtering on?

Go into your network properties and rightclick|disable every adapter (physical and virtual) and leave the wireless adapter itself active: right click repair (or do an ipconfig /releaseall +renew all)

None of that stuff is going to work if he isn't connected.

Start at layer 1 ...

OP- your doing this all wrong.
Put in a bootable disc.
Go to the DOS Prompt.

Type DIR
It should say something like D:\ and then a Directory listing.

After that, Type: FORMAT c:
Then type Y

Problem solved.

Your welcome.

Why not CMD|DELTREE?:p

Your forgetting the /y switch. Otherwise DEL and DELTREE will ask you to confirm.

C:\Deltree *.* /y

I hope the OP jumps on this Top Shelf advice soon.
