The other half just got a ticket on our 2008 Sprinter for not having proper business name and license labeling on both doors. This vehicle is not used for anything but camping and commuting. Hell, we're freaking Maritime and the CA Contractors board said they don't even have a catagory for a Contractor's license since we work in, on, and under water.

Because of our state laws, any vehicle over a certain GVW is required to have commercial plates. DMV will only issue a personal plate on a van if a sink, toilet, and bed are installed. The van is registered to a private individual not a business. Now what, are we are fair game for tickets?

Any advice other than sell everything and move to another state? Not an option but has anyone else encountered this?

I'm guessing maybe CHP commercial vehicle enforcement? Following these guidelines might help shed a little more light on the situation.

DISCLAIMER: none of this will be used for court purposes. We are here to help, not get your info and screw you. I expect all the LEO's here to adhere to this disclaimer please.

From now on, and we should have addressed this early on, I would like folks who have questions about tickets to provide minimally the following information.

1. section you were cited for
2. city where you were cited
3. your vehicle info (not required, but helps alot)
4. what the OFFICER TOLD YOU
5. what you TOLD THE OFFICER
6. a brief description of the location (ie...lights, what type of intersection, what type of street, etc.....)

When we have this information it greatly helps us understand the circumstances surrounding your ticket and ways we might help you with it.

I’ll have the citation in hand tonight. This happened on Highway 20 near Upper Lake. (Lake County)

Thank you for posting Brash47’s guidelines, sorry I missed them.

I got nailed for that too...he said I needed my name on the door or (not for hire)
Back then it was a 65$ ticket (10 years ago) I was registered for 26k lbs. And had commercial plates..Such petty BS!........

No it isn't. And it's painfully obvious that you just Googled it and took the first result without actually clicking on the link and realizing that link covers the entire section, not that specific CVC code. :laughing

Back in 1999-2007 we owned an F450 truck (GVWR 15K, GCWR 26K) for towing our large fifth wheel RV and we had to register it under the CVRA, which meant we had to declare either GVWR or GCWR and put a sticker on each front door/fender that showed the declaration. Ours had the "26" sticker - we never had to put a company name or anything else on the doors.

section you were cited for: Driver/Vehicle Examination Report
2. city where you were cited: Upper Lake CA
3. your vehicle info: 2008 Sprinter 3500 Cargo Van
4. what the OFFICER TOLD YOU: My other half has had a TBI and sometimes misunderstands: says the officer fully inspected the van questioned him about its use, and issed an 8"X11" sheet showing CW609997, KP 42737and verbally told to add carrier name and trademark on doors? The citations are repairable Part I
5. what you TOLD THE OFFICER: Vehicle is used forcamping and commuting to and from work and to our property roughly $15,000 mies per year.
6. a brief description of the location (ie...lights, what type of intersection, what type of street, etc.....): Highway 20 near the round about intersection of Highway 20 E and 29S

Well, if she was in the van she probably wasn't wearing a helmet so...

Yay!!! Finally got this resolved!!!

For anyone's future experience here's what happens:
The sheet the officer handed my other half was an 8X11 sheet of paper listing the citations.
The no company name on doors was a moot issue and no citation issued :party

The other two "fix-it" issues listed on thepaper were followed up with a mailed citation issed from the Ukiah CHP office. Apparantly thevan waspulled for a burnedout tail light bulband then subjected to a full commercial vehicle inspection.

We were ited for the burned out bulb and a broken tail light lens. All fixed now.

Once again, barf LEOs, thanks for your time and advice.

Interest development, the van is registered to an individual not a business. All the citations are written to the business. Doesn’t really matter to us we had to fix the things listed but the officer signing off the tickets kind of rolled his eyes.
