ADV/DS ride Lake Berryessa/Knoxville OHV/Rayhouse Rd.

Went out yesterday (Sunday) and didn't see a soul but a dude on an ATV.

Did Bartlett Springs to Lodoga to Goat Mountain.

From Goat Mountain we tried to stay on M5 but got side tracked and ended up on 16N06 which tied us back to Bartlett Spring rd and back tracked to Vacaville.

For the amount of baby heads and downhill we had to do on 500lb bikes, it sure tired the shit out of us. A good time nonetheless.

Here is an obligatory picture.

Okay I got my Heidenau K60s on so I should be ready to go on the 11th next month or maybe even before then. I need some off road practice for the Death Valley Noob rally in March.

It's hard to read through the whole thing, so a couple questions:
is this something that can be done on 17s with street tires? on a WR450
what sort of fuel range do I need?

I'll say yes 'cause I've seen it done, but there will be some stretches that will be made more difficult with street tires. As far as fuel goes, there's only 100 miles of trails there and unless you're planning on hitting every one, whatever you've got left after filling up at Cordelia should get you through most of the park and onto the Cache Creek Chevron. You will get less, but if you've ever checked your mileage before you should be able to gauge what you've got.

I recommend scanning this thread for the pictures posted from previous rides, that will give you a better idea of what to expect terrain-wise.

I did this pretty easily on my NX650 with street tires. Shouldn’t be any tougher on a WR450 (unless it’s muddy)

I am planning to take the day off work this Sunday. Hoping I am not the only one out there even though I don't mind going out on my own. I just can't do the really gnarly stuff on my own because I ride a 2011 Tiger 800 xc. Thats a whole lot of bike to try and get back up a berm or hill. Also, I don't have a Spot or InReach should something happen to me. I went riding at Knoxville about 7 months ago on my own and didn't feel comfortable doing some of the gnarlier trails as I nearly wiped out twice (first time off road). That being said, I learned a LOT in the 4 hrs of off-road riding that I did and managed to have a ton of FUN! Hopefully I get the day off and more people are willing to head out this Sunday as the weather should be nice! Here is a video I made using my phone heading back down to the park. Sorry about the quality, as I shot it on my phone strapped to my backpack using a belt clip.

Anyone know if the gate at Rayhouse is open?

Well, if the government is shut down through Saturday, I am not going to be able to take Sunday off. I have to report or be furloughed (no pay). Hopefully Congress can get their sh*t together by Saturday.

Okay looks like the shutdown is over. See you guys at 8:45 this Sunday at Starbucks 4470 Central Way Ste 100
Fairfield, CA 94534.

MIght be able to make this. Will know later in the day.

I'll be headed up from Oakland on a husky

Well, I had a great time with PMD220, we got a bit lost and passed the turn off onto Reiff Rd but managed to backtrack and ride it to hwy 16. I managed to drop my bike by getting my front wheel into 2 big ruts in a row. This was likely because i came in a bit hot and didn't have enough time to pick a different line. My Alpinestar Sante Fe Jacket and pants along with hip armor served me well and I managed to jump back on and ride. Now that I am home I can definitely tell I fell onto the hip protector because there is a scratch on my skin just above the protector. No damage other than a bruise and a scratch. The bike held up well and I am very glad I installed the Barkbuster handguards. My clutch lever would have been toast had I not had them on. The aluminum hand quard piece twisted around the handlebars but that's an easy fix with an allen wrench. Besides a few scratched on my engine guards, my engine bash plate, the left hand guard, and left mirror, the bike is fine and nothing broke. Oh and I did manage to scratch the helmet but it wasn't a direct hit, more like a light slide impact. The CE shoulder and elbow armor did their job and the jacket still looks new. Anyway, I learned a lot today and had a blast. Hopefully more people come out next month. There a few more trails that I have found that look interesting on the map.
