Get Fit, Stay Fit, Feel Good - 2026

Robert, your “easy” recovery rides are something I aspire to as a normal or hard ride. I’d say you’re a beast.
Accurate.

LOL the coach just left me a note saying to go even easier on my recovery rides. Ugh, that's gonna be tough.
You're like me. Once I'm on the bike, my thighs are going to burn for the whole ride, even if I intended to make it an easier day. :laughing

That’s the thing, those rides were def not like that. I was barely pedaling (for me). Avg HR was 113 and 122bpm. I suspect the 113bpm was fine but the 122 was too hard. I asked for clarification.

You're very well disciplined, Robert, I've enjoyed watching your journey these years!

I'm ver disciplined and knowledgeable with my coaching of my track athletes, but I sometimes apply less on myself.

Same, the hardest part of a ride for me is to not give 100% the entire time. It feels 'slow' to do 80% or so with the proper cadence but when I can keep the effort down it greatly increases how far I can go.

It’s really easy to ride <80% when you are doing 10+ hrs a week. That 4hr ride I did on Sun was at 63% intensity. So maybe 75% up most hills, 70% on the flats, and whatever on downhills. I wasn’t cooked after, but I def felt it. And if I had ridden any harder, I wouldn’t have been able to do this today:

2x20min SweetSpot training, ie 20min intervals at 95%. This is what makes my legs burn. Felt good though. Prob too good. I bet the coach gives me 3x20 or 2x30 later this week.

I did my first workout of the year. (Other than waddling around)

I set a personal distance record on my rower of 6415 meters. 1200 strokes, 47:14. I love how the chart of date/strokes/meters makes me compete with myself. “I’ll do X strokes. Oh but wait let’s get to an even distance. Oh but hey new personal record.”

Hey - editing to add that I would love someone to FaceTime me while I use the weight set to make sure my form isn’t horrible.

47min at 133bpm avg is a solid endurance/cardio workout.

The 5min in Z3 and a tiny bit in Z4 makes me wonder how you would respond to intensity & really heavy breathing. Something like 3x3min all out with 6-8min easy btw each.

I do like having a mirror for lifting.

Thanks! Tomorrow I’m truly hoping for a pedal. We had snow this morning which was beautiful but rude. :x

I haven’t used a weight machine in prob 25 years. I messaged a friend of mine who is a personal trainer asking to book a session and no response. I need adult supervision to get started.

I looked into getting some mirrored panels so I can watch myself, too.

With today's technology, an indoor ring camera and your phone in a holder would be a much cheaper and quicker option. You could set up several ring cameras and switch between them. Pure viewing wouldn't require a subscription.

They aren't on sale at the moment, but they go on sale pretty often at 50% off.

Oh I like this! I need one front and one at the side. I reckon I could do a tripod set up and move as/where needed because I also like watching my form when I row.

Editing to add I heard back from the trainer. Yay.

Also remembered a full size mirror I have in a spare room that I will repurpose.

Rode today (1.6.26). My shoulder was a little tender so I kept it short plus wanted the energy to play on the Nordic track.

@stangmx13 i chose a hilly route and got my heart rate up higher today. I felt great!

3 PT sessions and one Tai Chi, which I basically have memorized now. Rode the bike before PT3.

A lot of shit for not much gain. :(

I know you have been through this before but I feel like I have dealt with some long plateaus before I’d level up rapidly. I hope that’s the case. Not trying to say what you’re feeling is wrong but trying to offer a little sunshine. 😍

I used my new to me Nordic track cross country skier and my bunz were 🔥 BURNING 🔥 after 15 minutes.

Hear ya Cootz. All is moving in the right direction just incredibly slooooowww. :(

What, ~4hrs of effort? Welcome to the grind. Keep putting in the hours - it’s worth it.
The PT sessions at my office are 1/2 hour. So call it 2 hours plus the 20 minute bike ride. It is of course worth it. I so want to throw aside the cane and do some daily simple things without any pain.

Then the ultimate goal. 990R fun.
