So the first data drop on the Donut Labs proof of the pudding website is scheduled for tomorrow morning (Monday 2/23)at 0500, west coast time.

Im hopeful but prepared to be underwhelmed.

Announcing the website in January that will silence the doubters on Feb 20, and then Feb 20 arrives as a website that will be the repository for the proof......thats coming in 3 more days...doesnt inspire confidence.

But I want to believe!

Without taking a deep dive, is this for motos only?
Or can this tech work for cars?

The Chinese have already developed quick charge batteries so there will be some competition.

Being ignorant, watching the Verge video, it's all pretty exciting.

I don't know what "solid state" means when it comes to a battery though, it's it just a bunch of capacitors vs whatever goop is inside of a normal rechargeable (and the lead plates and solution in a car battery)?

I'd like to believe but there is a lot of skepticism on the donut battery. I have ridden the Verge TS and it's a pretty awesome bike. Will just have to see if the solid state battery does what they claim it will do.

Well, the first data drop was this morning at 0500.

I am whelmed :|

It was cool seeing the testing of the cell by a government authority. There was a report that accompanied it. 12C charging is amazeballs and having the resistance go down as the battery heats up is a goldilocks scenario.

But 4.3volts is still indicative of lithium chemistry. There is a charge curve in the docs, but the snippet video showed at CES shows a straight line (no tapering of on the charge power as it got close to 100%) so thats....different that what was advertised at CES.

Ultimately I'm still of the mindset of silencing the doubters by selling a bike that does what they say it does. Quit trying to "own the haters" with YouTube videos.

lol, still...........probably going to go put down a deposit next weekend. :later

Some promissing test results

They were able to charge it at 11C but it got very hot. 11C is A LOT of current. 11x the AH capacity of the battery.

Put a deposit on what?

Isn't this just an independent battery and controller company?

I do know Donut Labs is the one who makes the Verge TS motor

Donut labs was spun off from Verge Motorcycles. You're right they are an independent design and engineering company.

I'm going to put a deposit on a Verge motorcycle, that features the Donut motor, Donut OS, Donut battery, etc

There seems to be questions about the testing that has been done.

Lightning has 800V bikes now.
I think. Still majic to me.

No extra terrestrial being has ever visited earth. At least not in modern times. Though the future does hold that extremely faint possibility.

Pudgy middleaged men in ballcaps (me) are for fixing things or installing your hvac or asking you if you know how fast you were going, but one thing they probably aren't for, is revolutionizing battery technology.

This grandad bod, geriatric Boomer is all for the revolution in battery technology. Advantages?
Hearing aids
Mobility chair/scooter
The Clapper®
MedicAlert® necklace
Lighter analog flip phones
Robust backup battery for our motorized living room lounge chair
Same for our sidesaddle seat, stairway lift for avoiding sox assisted femur breaking falls!!
And plenty of amps/volts for our Taser to keep you in line, Bro!

Yeah, i dont know anyone who's not a Lightning employee that has one. The few people that claim not to be employees/ investors have to sign an NDA to buy one.

Just Hatfield's reputation and the thought of needing to sign an NDA to make a purchase puts me off on the brand.

I mean, Ive seen one on the road in real life, which is more than I can say for Verge.....so theres that.

I don't know nothing about nothing.

However, from the article:
Comissioned testing: the client decides what tests, how they are conducted, etc.

Every time you guys report this as independent testing you are providing legitimacy that isn't merited.

If the testing is open, and the data is open, and the results are published, that doesn't invalidate the testing. It may well be select testing, but that doesn't mean that the select testing is wrong of invalid.

It's all wait and see to me. Mostly, I don't pay attention. I have no dog in this hunt.

Best of luck to all parties.

Ben Affleck has one.
Two, actually. We have a Spark. Hatfield is in Hollister. I know him fairly well
