Im >60 and found my unicorn bike 2k miles away.

The reference to 60/40 tires and 150mi range suggests it might be a dual sport? Even if its something bigger like a KTM 690, I still wouldn't want to put a couple thousand miles of slab on one. Adding miles adds depreciation, so for me they better be good/enjoyable miles and not just trying to bomb across the country.

I slab my dual-sport bike when I have to, and don’t sweat burning up my DOT knobbies, cuz I tend to appreciate the option of being able to bounce up some fire road a few miles at the end of the day to find a campsite—or find a spot I can camp, rather, since it’s nice not having to deal with established campgrounds if I don’t have to do that.

my wife concocted a plan where she flew to the east coast to visit family with a one-way airplane ticket and a helmet, and the idea that she’d find a bike to buy to ride home on. she wound up rescuing a neglected ‘99 VFR from some tweaker’s back yard and did a 9000 mile cross-country trip to get back to SF. she wasn’t over 60 y/o at the time—but it certainly wasn’t her first rodeo, either. :afm199 :laughing :ride

Beware the Unicorn! Does it actually exist or is it something you've convinced yourself about with so much thinking?

There is another Unicorn thread on teh Barf's that comes to mind, and then my own search that has had mixed results..

My unicorn of late.. although the jury is still out on this one..

as for cruise control, I have one of these and it's pretty decent. I have to play with it to get the approximate speed I want, generally about 75MPH on the slab. It allows me to take the hand off the throttle for minutes at a time that really takes the edge off the hand going numb or getting tired.

150 miles a day Dualsport?!
The KTmM 390R has a limited range as does Beta Alp and stock rank DR650.
Not sure BMW 450 has a preowned market…,
None of these would be great for 2000 miles. Can’t imagine a single cylinder Unicorn so the classic BMW makes sense, but those can be found all over.

I’m a little concerned about having a 150 mile range and riding through the flyover states.
There are some long stretches between Chicago and Reno where gas stations aren’t so close together.

The fact that the bike only has a 150 mile range pretty much makes the decision for you. Otherwise you’d be making 16 stops or more for gas.

We’ve all had it happen where we’re on a road trip, gas gauge says half full and you think you’re good.

10 miles further comes a sign that says “next gas 62 miles” and you gotta decide what to do.
