LOLWUT?
I need a word.

im in the middle of working on a comic project that i wrote which explores some samurai philisopihical ideas, ethics, and what not. it is a five issue mini series. its meant to bridge the gap between more manga style stuff like Vagabond and wordy philosophical stuff lke alan moore or dave mckean.

the main character (one of two protagonists) is a wandering fighter, who completely casts off the idea of official training, philisophy, code and honor, etc, and embraces a sort of schopenhauerian idea of the will, striving and endless violence, as the way to enlightenment, living wholly in the moment and violence as the true "way".

for now in the script his name is only "ronin" because he disregards ideas of titles, prestige, masters, etc. except realy, he isnt a RONIN, because he is not searching for a master or even following the way of the samurai.

the artist is currently working on it, but heres the deal. I need a japanese word to replace Ronin as his name, or at least some ideas for it. something that would fit the narrative, like fighter, wanderer, you know, something like that.

thoughts? cool sounding words that could double as a name? ive goggled some terms but as always im unsure of their true meanngs. someone who speaks to help solidify the meaning is correct would be great (ass opposed to a cool sounding word that actuall ymeans like fgt or dirt or something )

basically im trying to avoid a mid 90's kanji tattoo on a girl situation :laughing

That reminds me of a story. A buddy of mine had his bike painted with two Japanese symbols on the top of the tank that were supposed to say "Wet Dream". He said he wasn't sure if it was right or not. One day a tour bus left off a gaggle of Japanese tourists and when two Japanese women saw the gas tank, they blushed and walked away. So we were pretty sure, it was correct.

I probably could have helped you out 3 years ago.

My nihongo has faded.

I thought this about car speakers.... my bad.

Don't listen to him, Kev! The name of your character will somehow be related to Sailor Moon!

英雄 = Eiyuu means 'hero' in japanese (and chinese)

At the risk of sounding obvious, you can call your main protagonist 'Ronin' guy : Eiyuu

Now, ヒーロー, is the katakana literal phonetics of "Hero"

Ronin senshi = Ronin Warrior

I'll think some more for you, Kev !

Kinda reminds me of Ogami Itto from Lone Wolf and Cub.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lone_Wolf_and_Cub

Ogami Ittō, formidable warrior and a master of the suiō-ryū swordsmanship, serves as the Kogi Kaishakunin (the Shōgun's executioner), a position of high power in the Tokugawa Shogunate.

After Ogami Ittō's wife Azami gives birth to their son, Daigorō, Ogami Ittō returns to find her and all of their household brutally murdered, with only the newborn Daigorō surviving. During the initial incursion, an ihai (funeral tablet) with the shogun's crest on it was placed inside the Ogami family shrine, signifying a supposed wish for the shogun's death. When the tablet is "discovered" during the murder investigation, its presence condemns Ittō as a traitor and thus he is forced to forfeit his post.

On meifumadō ("The Road to Hell"), the cursed journey for vengeance, Ogami Ittō and Daigorō experience numerous adventures, encountering (and slaying) all of Yagyū Retsudō's children and the entire Kurokuwa ninja clan, and eventually facing Retsudō himself.

Lone wolf And cub, as well as vagabond, are both inspirations for this project.

I actually have a treatment and actual plot description for this, I'll post it up tonight when I get home

I knew barf woukd hel

Edit: here's a single paragraph pitch/synopsis used to gather the people working on the project title and names are all working titles/place holders .

In *16th century feudal Japan, the small town of Gannosuke prepares to put on their annual sword tournament. However, the appearance of an unnamed Ronin, with no history or training, turns their world upside down. In the wake of the untamed and untrained Ronin’s growing success, Ryo, proud Samurai and head of the tournament, begins to question everything he stands for. Katsu, a young girl with a voracious heart, is inspired to break the mold conservative Japanese society has made for her. Ryo’s son, Ryuku, watching his father falter, begins not only to question his own father’s values, but the values of honor, duty, and the samurai code itself. Meanwhile, from afar, Zen monk Honshin watches the events unfold, and discovers a wisdom in the raw ferocity of this Ronin, forever altering his view of Buddhism. Full of martial arts action and the philosophy of the sword, “Ronin: Seeds of Unrest” is the story of what happens when people are forced to reevaluate their ideals and sense of identity.
