So here we are…. Holidays done and a new year to enjoy.
The Backstory: IN 2001 there was a group of guys from the Bay Area who hung on SBN and got to know each other. I was in a Yahoo Club myself... remember those?? Geez I was still getting spammed 5 years ago from it..
When Steve Cole (theSteveCo) decided to start something local for the dudes that chatted up there.
But...what should they call it?? Since I was not there I am shooting from old memories here, but I did see early banter about it. I believe it was MackeyStingray that suggested Bay Area Riders Forum (barf) and I believe he actually designed the barf logo as well. He was one of the early Moderators, became a racer and I remember well when he fell asleep at the first ever Mod meet I attended... we all made fun of him. Photo OP!!!
.
Anyways Steve was a little resistant on Barf, but caved eventually. His work put together a package with VBulletin software and when barfed launched on Jan 2, 2002 I believe there were 5 dudes that chimed in. So Happy BDAY BARF!! 20 years later we have a few more than 5 guys....
There has been a lot of life played out within our digital landscape and in the world we actually share outside that. We have seen kids born, marriages, people pass, human kindness shared, the passion of racing, the banter of politics and the fight for our rights as American motorcyclists. Collecting these threads and sharing those times again was fun work.
A lot of folks say.. man I liked barf the way it was in the old days. Everyone knew each others and we all got along and we did not need any stinking rules...
Well not 100% correct. Just for fun....Here is the first ever barf wide posted announcement by Steve in Jun of our birth year. I had been a member for about a month.
Shape up or ship out!
So you can see the flaming and crap has been happening a long time and it is not why BARF exists. We are about bikes, rides, socials, doing other things with like minded people and have fun, but it is the internet and the keyboard is mighty so I expect we will always have those moments.
I do smile when folks clamor for the good old days. Having lived long enough I know know these are going to be the good old days 5 years from now.
So enjoy them!!
One of our first members is still active once in a while and he appears in many of the meet collages I put together below. The man never changed his avatar either. magyarbetyar did his Mod duty for a good long spell and if you see Mod Alumni in a profile / under a members avatar, then you will know those members gave time to support teh barf, and I for one appreciate it much.
Lets rock this.

theSteveCo said:I'm not, in the slightest, amused.
My first response is this, a request for the people here to recognize that this flaming of late is not why BARF exists. We are about rides and socials. The people responsible for the recent change in spirit are not people you will ever see at a social or on a ride, so I'm not really sure why they're here or even how they found us.
My second response will be to spend a week or two cleaning our site... deleting posts, locking out users, etc. I'll later publish all these posts in a book called "How to Look Like an Ass".
My third response will be to make BARF an invitation only site, where new members are not welcomed with open arms, but reference checked by the moderators.
I don't think any of the people who have been here for a long time want that. If you find yourself saying "so" or "who cares", you are probably one of the people I'm talking about.
Sorry, people, for the inconvenience. The losers should be gone shortly.

Our TOS started to evolve a bit and Bap got his own smilie because he took on the task of suspending people
I never have liked doing that myself, because I want people to have fun here and I have enough time as an authority figure as a Father.
. Thanks to all that have been honorable enough to throw down the 1%. Those that have not.....Sup??

with him.
The solidarity of motorcyclists was on display here.

but plenty of good stuff remain to enjoy it again and again. He and I ended up and Indy MotoGP together where we filmed this interview with MotoLiam.
Tell him Budman sent you too!
's..! I had no idea that Dave Stanton was that
Paul’s miracle lives on in this thread and he does too. He made a full recovery!
